How to be an alert tart? Poor diary skills massively add to UK corporate profits. Whether it's trial magazine subscriptions, 0% balance transfer offers or car insurance renewals, all are designed so people forget when they start paying high rates. To help I thought I'd remind you about my Free Tart Alert which sends you a reminder text or e-mail six weeks before your product rate ends. While originally designed for credit cards, you can use it for anything.

The other crucial way to stay alert.... is this free e-mail of course. Please do help friends or family or colleagues by telling them about it. All they need do is go to moneysavingexpert.com/tips and add their e-mail address. The more MoneySavers, the more corporate Britain quakes.

Broadband prices have continued to plummet with providers in stiff competition for custom. In some cases you can get it free with other products; if not top deals include the likes of Plusnet* which offers speeds of up to 8Mbps (that's fast) with a 1GB download for only £9.99/month. Free £100 with a 6.2% paying bank account or get a 0% overdraft. Updated Article

The Bank of Scotland, (which isn't just for the Scots!) pays a huge 6.2% interest on its current account if you're in-credit; plus you'll get a £100 sign-up bonus if you earn over £15,200 and pay your salary into it. This offer closes 30 June, but act quick; its sister bank Halifax's similar offer closed early due to high demand. If you're overdrawn: Head and shoulders above the rest is Alliance & Leicester which offers an interest free overdraft for the first year, followed by 5.9% afterwards. New Top Instant Access Savings Account 6.05%. Updated Article
Last week's interest rate rise has proved a big boon for savers. The new highest payer is ICICI* which will disproportionately up its rate to a huge 6.05% on Friday (don't worry if you get it now at 5.65% on Friday your rate will be increased too); better still it's instant access and you only need £1 to open it. A couple of top paying accounts, notably from Alliance & Leicester and HSBC, have yet to react to the rate rise, customers of these (and only these) should wait and see before switching as they lose interest when withdrawals are made. Got a Capped Rate Energy tariff? Are you on British Gas' 'Discounted' tariff? Time To Switch
If you're on a capped rate energy tariff, as prices have dropped it's likely you're paying over the odds. Don't worry about being charged a penalty for switching, with the exception of British Gas' 2010 price protection tariff, these have now mainly ended. So check and do a comparison to see if you can save. Plus a warning for those on British Gas' 'Discounted Electricity Tariff', many of you are about to be shifted onto another tarriff, so it's time to do a comparison. My top pick comparison service Energyhelpline* pays £15 cashback if it can switch you (only via this special link), for other options and info read the Full Article: Cheapest Gas & Elec Related Article: Cheap Boiler Cover

Cheap Loans Disappearing. Act Quickly if you need to borrow
The Bank of England raised interest rates 0.25% last week and Asda's market leading 5.9% loan quickly increased to 6.9%.  Thankfully the other cheap lenders haven't yet followed suit and 6.1% is still available.  As the rate you get now is fixed for the life of the loan, if you're going to need to borrow, now's likely to be the best time. Last sub-5% mortgages disappearing Base Rate Special
Last week's 0.25% interest rate rise means those with variable rates will pay roughly £20 a month more per £100,000 owed. Plus there's still time to get some cheap fixed rate deals, as these are usually sold in tranches, (ie the lender has, for example £100 million of them available at a set rate, and only changes the offer once it's gone). The last pre-rate rise deals are dissappearing at speed, so if you can act in the next few days.
