New look for MoneySavingExpert.com later this week. The site's now just over 4 years old and this week it's going to have its first substantial makeover. I do hope you like it. The aim is for it to work the same way (no changes to content) but look nicer, and make it far easier to find things. You can play with a fully working dummy version for the moment, if you'd like a look. Test New Look
Save money in the rain! As the weather's likely to be miserable this week, why not sit in and get more money? If you're around why not try a mini-money makeover, pick a few areas you've never looked at before like Gas & Elec, Free Anti-virus Protection, Remortgaging, Cashback Sites, Mortgage Fee Reclaiming or Cashback Credit Cards and save some cash, hopefully to use for a good time when the sun's shining.

Cheap summer package holiday late deals are here. Cut a further 15% off the cost!
While Cheap Flights And Hotels rule the roost for city breaks, if you want a week in the sun in a traditional holiday destination, old fashioned package holidays are usually still cheapest. Prices drop heavily 8 to 10 weeks before the trip date as the holiday becomes a late deal; thus we're now entering prime-time for summer holiday booking. Yet don't accept the price given; one tour operator's holiday is sold by many travel agents. First find the deal, then phone around to see who'll undercut the price. You can usually save 15% more in around an hour. Full Step-By-Step Guide: Haggle Down Your Holiday Costs Related Articles: Cheapest Travel Insurance, Cheap Flights, Cheapest Way To Spend Abroad

New Top 0% for 13 months cards for those with credit card debts. Updated Article
Two new market leading balance transfer cards both offer 0% for 13 months, with a fee of 2% of the amount shifted. Balance transferring means shifting debts to a new card with a cheaper rate, usually saving £100s a year. Both Natwest* and its sister RBS* credit cards offer this deal. It is possible to increase the 0% length a smidgeon with other cards, but as the fee is higher it isn't really worth it. URGENT! Tesco half-price home insurance. Get a quote now & it holds for 3 months
Tesco is again increasing its usual 35% online discount to 50%. Better still get a quote now & it lasts for 90 days. So, even if you're not at renewal, quote now and buy later. This is a good deal, yet it's not automatically cheapest; before grabbing it, follow my usual cost cutting plan to compare the market including using screenscraping websites Moneysupermarket*, Confused* & Compare the Market* which whizz details through scores of insurers and brokers to find the cheapest. Then get Tesco's* quote, and compare the top results with it. Full details in the Updated Article: Cheapest Home Insurance Related Article: Cheapest Car Insurance

New £100,000 Bank Charges Fighting Fund. Senior lawyers advise cases should win in court
There's a new £100,000 legal fighting fund pledged to take on any precedent-setting bank charges cases (a substantial chunk's from this site). Thankfully the vast majority of people get payouts without coming close to court. Yet for the first time two weeks ago one judge didn't award someone's bank charges back. A senior QC's view is the case doesn’t deal with any principle of law and is of no legal importance; it fell solely on the failure to lodge evidence. Most judges continue to award payouts at a pace, but the bank are using it to scare people off. Of course it's laughable: in football parlance the banks are crowing about the fact that they’re now only losing 100,000 to one not 100,000 to nil. Keep reclaiming. Operations and dentistry are often a lot cheaper if done outside the UK; but the saving is balanced by the difficulty of aftercare and concerns over regulation and quality. WARNING. Use the right CCCS if you've got problem debts
The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (the CCCS) is the UK's biggest debt help charity. Yet a company called 'Credit Card Consolidation Services' now has a c-c-c-s website and is advertising on Google. Please be very careful; the correct link to the CCCS site is www.cccs.co.uk and it's permanently available in the Debt Problems: What to do and where to get help article. Sadly one MoneySaver went wrong, but luckily when they asked for £600-£700 for a debt management plan he realised the problem and checked back as the real CCCS is always free.

Money Moral Dilemma: Should Handy Andy ask Carol and Laurence for more money?
Builder and decorator Handy Andy has been helping Carol & Laurence do up the run down house they bought as their new family home. As they're good friends he's been doing it at mates' rates for five weeks (longer than expected) to give them a leg up. Now Andy's found out that due to a job change, rather than living in the house, the couple are planning to put the now-glistening property back on the market to make some serious cash. Should he go back and ask them for full commercial rates for the job - over twice as much? Enter the Money
