High street retailer Argos this week launched its twice-yearly end-of-catalogue sale, in a week of mega discounts for bargain hunters.

However, as with any sale, reduced-priced items sell out fast, so don't waste any time bagging a bargain.

Other summer promotions include department store Debenhams' up to 50% off sale, which began yesterday, and retailer Ikea's up to 50% off sale, which begins today.

At Argos, 3,000 items are reduced online and in store, some at half-price. However, plenty of products are still at their regular price.

One item likely to attract buyers' attention is a Hitachi 42-inch HD LCD television at £399, reduced from £587. The sale ends on Friday 24 July.

Deborah Heston, MoneySavingExpert.com deals analyst, says: "The high street is awash with sales at the moment. Although there are some strong bargains, as with any sale you need to watch out for stock levels. Not everyone will be able to get hold of the bigger bargains."
