E.on extends Reward spending deadline - but check NOW to see if you have any remaining points
Energy giant E.on is to push back a 30 June deadline for standard tariff customers to spend any remaining points from its soon-to-be defunct Rewards scheme to 11 October 2017.
The extension will allow customers extra time to check if they have points, work out how many they have and redeem them for Tesco Clubcard points or Bonusbond gift vouchers.
E.on revealed it was pulling the plug on Rewards, which some two million E.on customers had taken advantage of, in January this year. At the time, it said it would stop awarding points to customers on its standard tariff in March 2017 while - separately - eligible customers on a fixed rate deal were given all points owed by the end of April.
However, the company has now revised the rules. As well as this helping those on standard tariffs, anyone on a fixed deal that offered E.on rewards will no longer have to redeem points. According to the supplier, you have two years from when you were awarded your points to redeem them - though from October you'll no longer be able to do this online; instead, you'll need to call the energy supplier itself.
Those on fixes also won't be able to trade their points for Tesco Clubcard points after 11 October - only Bonusbond gift vouchers are available after this date.

What was E.on Rewards?
E.on Rewards let you earn up to 1,500 reward points each year from certain electricity-only and dual-fuel tariffs. You didn't need to do anything to earn the points, just be opted-in on an eligible tariff and you'd start accumulating them each day.
Once earned, you were then able to exchange these points for Tesco Clubcard points or Bonusbond gift vouchers.
Each E.on Reward point was worth one Tesco Clubcard point - or potentially four times more if you used Clubcard Boost. (For other ways to boost your Clubcard points now the E.on scheme is ending, check out our Reclaim & Boost Tesco Vouchers guide.)
If you opted for Bonusbond gift vouchers - which are accepted at over 18,000 shops, restaurants, bars and hotels - 500 reward points netted you £5.
How do I check if I've got points to spend?
To check how many points you have or to redeem them, you can either log in to your online account and navigate to the rewards section or contact E.on on 0345 301 5350 (0345 302 4317 if you're on prepay).
From 11 October 2017, anyone on a fixed deal with Rewards that has points remaining won't be able to redeem these online - you'll need to call the supplier. You also won't have the option of exchanging your points for Tesco Clubcard points after this date; only Bonusbond vouchers will be available.
It's worth noting that since the beginning of December 2016 no new fixed tariffs have offered E.on Rewards so you wouldn't have been on the scheme if you've signed up to a fixed tariff with E.on in the past six months.
"We're keen to ensure our customers redeem the points they're entitled to"
An E.on spokesperson told us: "Although the Rewards scheme is ending, we’re keen to ensure our customers redeem the points they’re entitled to. We’re therefore writing to all our customers who have more than £2.50 worth of Reward Points reminding them to exchange. We’re also reminding customers to exchange through our website and app and when they phone us.
"For customers on our E.on EnergyPlan standard tariff, we’re extending the deadline for them to redeem their points from 30th June to 11th October 2017. This will allow customers more time to redeem their points.
“Customers on our fixed tariffs have two years from the date their points were awarded to redeem their points. This was made clear to these customers when they signed up. From 11th October, customers on fixed tariffs will only be able to redeem their points by calling in and asking for them in the form of vouchers for the high street; the option to redeem via Tesco Clubcard or online will no longer be available. Again, we’re writing to customers to notify them of this.
“We remain committed to offering competitive prices and solutions and benefits that’ll help customers save energy and pay less. For example, we recently launched E.on Saver v10, a one year no frills fixed tariff which is currently E.ON’s cheapest tariff.”
