Tesco customers who are signed up to the Clubcard Plus subscription service have been unable to access the shopping discounts they pay for due to ongoing technical problems with the app.

Clubcard Plus – which was launched last year – gives various perks and discounts, including 10% off two shops per month, for a £7.99/month fee.

Customers usually activate the discount by pressing a button in the Clubcard Plus app when they complete their shop, but since the middle of the week some have been reporting that the button won't load.

Tesco has now apologised and says it's working on a fix – but says that, in the meantime, any affected customers can ask for a refund of 10% off their shop by contacting customer services.

'I missed out on a £15 discount on my shopping today'

We were first alerted to the problem by MoneySaver Andy, who emailed saying: "The Tesco Clubcard Plus app has not worked for days – so you can't use it to get the discount you've paid for."

We've also seen more than a dozen complaints on social media about the problem in the past couple of days – here are just a few:

I can't use my Clubcard Plus discounts – what can I do?

Tesco has confirmed that if you're unable to use the app but pay for your shopping as usual, you'll be able to get a refund for the 10% discount you missed out on by contacting customer services.

If you're still in the store, you can take your receipt to the customer services desk for your refund.

But if you've already lost out on a discount, or you have difficulty getting a refund in-store, you can contact Tesco in several ways – the details can be found here on its website.

What does Tesco say?

A Tesco spokesperson said: "We are aware of an issue affecting Clubcard Plus customers redeeming their 'big shop coupons' in-store. We are working hard to resolve this as quickly as possible and apologise to all customers affected.

"Affected customers can go to the customer services desk in-store or contact our customer services team, who will issue a refund for 10% off their shop."
