Mortgage rates are rocketing. A year ago you could fix at just under 1%, now the cheapest mainstream deals are 4.95% for two years, 4.62% for five years, and 4.85% for 10 years. That 4% point-ish rise in mortgage rates equates to around £200 a month more (£2,400 a year) per £100,000 of mortgage debt.

The 45% top rate of income tax will NOT be scrapped from April 2023, Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has announced today. The change means those earning above £150,000 will continue to pay a higher marginal rate of tax, as they do now.

Eleven water companies across England and Wales will be forced to cut customer bills by a collective £150 million from April 2023 after they missed targets on issues including pollution, sewerage flooding in homes, and water supply interruptions. It follows a backlash against water firms over practices including discharging raw sewerage into local waterways and coastlines.

Royal Mail is shaking up the rules on stamps, so if you've got a stash that say '1st' or '2nd' class on them then by 31 January 2023 you'll no longer be able to simply stick 'em on a letter and use them. This is because Royal Mail is moving to a new barcode system, which these stamps don't have.

The UK tax office is to refund 60,000 people that had tax rebates processed by Tax Credits Ltd. The move comes after a MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) investigation found that the third-party tax rebate firm was alleged to have submitted claims using forged signatures, without consent, and made it difficult for people to get hold of any money owed.
