Sainsbury's shopper? Check if you can get an easy Nectar points boost with its returning offer
If you have a Nectar card, you may be able to earn a few quid's worth of extra points over the next few weeks, as Sainsbury's has brought back its 'shop for points' promotion for some members. Unlike most other offers of this type, where you need to buy specific items, all you need to do here is spend £1 or more at a time in a few separate transactions. So it's a no-brainer if you were planning to do that anyway.
Check the Nectar app to see if you qualify
Not all Nectar members can take part in this promotion. The previous version of the offer, which ran in May, was open to "millions" of shoppers – this time, all Sainsbury's would tell us is that "selected customers" would have access to it.
If you've been chosen to take part, you should see a 'tile' in your Nectar app similar to the one below. If you don't currently have the app, you can download it for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Supermarket rival Tesco has also brought back its own 'Clubcard Challenges' scheme this month.
How Nectar's 'Shop for points challenge' works
Here's what you need to know:
If you qualify, you'll need to OPT IN to take part. You can do this through the Nectar app. If you don't, you simply won't earn any bonus points (though you'll still earn the usual one Nectar point per £1 spent at Sainsbury's).
Once opted in, to get the extra points, you need to spend just £1 or more at a time in store or online at Sainsbury's. This includes most groceries, though there are some limited exclusions, such as spirits and liqueurs, tobacco and baby milk products – see the full list. If you're shopping online, your Nectar and Sainsbury's accounts must be linked (if they aren't already).
The offer will run until Tuesday 6 August. Online orders must be delivered before this date to qualify.
You could earn 100s of extra points – worth up to a few quid to spend at Sainsbury's, Argos, eBay and more. Sainsbury's told us the number of bonus points on offer varies for each customer. In one example we've seen (shown below), the offer was for 700 bonus points in total (worth £3.50). Let us know what you get in the MSE Forum.

Remember: Don't use this promotion as an excuse to overspend – only buy what you were planning to anyway and see the challenges as an added boost if you do hit the targets.
