Sainsbury's shopper? Check if you can get an easy Nectar points boost with its new offer
If you have a Nectar card, you may be able to earn a few quid's worth of extra points this month, as Sainsbury's is running a limited new promotion – though millions of shoppers can still get it. Unlike most other offers of this type, where you need to buy specific items, all you need to do here is spend £1 or more at a time in a few separate transactions. So it's a no-brainer if you were planning to do that anyway.
The Sainsbury's offer – called the 'Nectar Shop for Points Challenge' – follows hot on the heels of supermarket rival Tesco's announcement of a similar 'Clubcard Challenges' promo, which will also run this month.
Below is everything we know about this Nectar offer. You can also read our Nectar points boosting guide for more on getting the most out of this popular scheme.
Check the Nectar app to see if you qualify
Not all Nectar members can take part in this promotion. Sainsbury's told us it's open to "millions" of customers, though all it would say about eligibility is that it's "based on a range of factors".
If you've been chosen to take part, you should see a 'tile' in your Nectar app similar to the one below. If you don't currently have the app, you can download it for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
If you don't see the promo, try updating your app via the same links above and checking again (some users on deals site HotUKDeals have reported this worked for them).
How Nectar's 'Shop for Points Challenge' works
Here's what you need to know:
If you qualify, you'll need to OPT IN to take part. You can do this through the Nectar app. If you don't, you simply won't earn any bonus points (though you'll still earn the usual one Nectar point per £1 spent at Sainsbury's).
Once opted in, to get the extra points, you need to spend just £1 or more at a time in store or online at Sainsbury's. This includes most groceries, though there are some limited exclusions, such as spirits and liqueurs, tobacco and baby milk products – see the full list. If you're shopping online, your Nectar and Sainsbury's accounts must be linked (if they aren't already).
The offer will run until Tuesday 4 June. Online orders must be delivered before this date to qualify.
You could earn 100s of extra points – worth up to a few quid to spend at Sainsbury's, Argos, eBay and more. Sainsbury's told us the number of bonus points on offer varies for each customer. In one example we've seen (shown below), the offer was for 100 bonus points on each of the next five shops – so up to 500 points in total (worth £2.50). Others online have reported being offered up to 900 points (worth £4.50).

Remember: Don't use this promotion as an excuse to overspend – only buy what you were planning to anyway and see the challenges as an added boost if you do hit the targets.
