About 180,000 Igloo Energy customers will see their gas and electricity bills rise by an average of 12% from August, after the firm announced it's hiking the price of its variable tariff. We've been warning for weeks that Igloo was likely to raise prices due to soaring wholesale costs though, so the move doesn't come as a surprise – and even after the rise Igloo will still be one of the cheaper players in the market. 

The competition watchdog has called for the prepayment price cap to stay in place after 2020 due to the slow roll-out of smart meters – but customers could pay more under the cap when calculation methods change. 

Big six suppliers E.on and EDF have increased energy prices to the maximum allowed under the new cap on standard variable tariffs – hitting customers with an average 10.3% rise from Monday 1 April. 

Small energy supplier Outfox the Market has announced it is to raise prices yet again – the second time it's announced a hike this month, and the fourth since June. 

Small supplier Outfox the Market is changing how it takes monthly direct debit payments, meaning some customers face paying 40% more during winter months – on top of hiking prices for the third time in five months.

The energy price cap announced today is "misnamed" and is NOT an indication of the maximum amount householders will pay, Martin Lewis has warned.  

Energy supplier Ebico is ending its variable, zero-standing charge tariff, and moving all 46,000 customers on it to a higher priced deal – blaming Ofgem's incoming price cap for the move. 

Octopus Energy has increased the price of its standard tariff by 11% – though it says former Iresa customers are protected from the hike. 

Energy supplier Outfox the Market has announced it is increasing the price of its variable tariff by 7.4% – meaning a typical household can no longer get an energy deal for less than £900/year.

Gas supplier Firmus Energy is set to hit all 87,000 of its customers in Northern Ireland with a 12% hike from the beginning of next month, adding up to £75/year to a typical bill.
