Those who enjoy fizzy drinks, cigarettes and wine will be hit by tax changes announced in the 2016 Budget – but taxes on cider, beer, whisky and other spirits have been frozen.
The tax on beer will fall by 1p and the duty on cider and spirits will be cut by 2% from 23 March, but smokers will be hit by higher prices from tonight, the Chancellor George Osborne has today announced.
Smokers will be hit by higher prices as the Chancellor announced increases in tobacco duty in today's Budget. Meanwhile, the price of alcohol will rise next week.
