Over a million people who claim tax credits will get their second cost of living payment from today (23 November). Below we breakdown who's eligible and how you'll be paid, plus what to do if you don't receive your payment but think you should have.

If you get tax credits you now need to tell HMRC if your working hours haven't returned to pre-Covid levels, while those who get Tax-Free Childcare must now prove their income. That's because a temporary relaxation of the eligibility criteria during the height of Covid for both benefits is coming to an end, and you are expected to notify the tax office of any permanent changes.

HM Revenue & Customs has announced that it's ended its tax credits fraud contract with the controversial Concentrix with immediate effect. It follows massive criticism of the contractor's performance and claims hundreds have had their tax credits wrongly stopped.

If your entire tax credit claim was wrongly stopped by the contractor Concentrix you'll receive a lump sum repayment, HM Revenue & Customs said today – but if only part of your claim was removed or reduced, you'll have to wait to get the money back in instalments.
