On Friday night I'll be presenting Tonight again; catching up with successes from January's Council Tax Reclaiming programme, updating Bank Charges Reclaiming, and for the first time doing a Mortgage Fee Reclaiming school. So why not stay in on Friday night, and watch, it's cheaper than going out! PS. My 'Teen Cash Camp' Tonight, scheduled last week, is now likely to be shown on 27 July.

New top 6.3% instant access savings rate! Plus new 'Rate Rise Leveler' system UK interest rates rose by 0.25% earlier this month, and ever since the top savings accounts have been battling for primacy. ICICI Hisave* is the winning clean account as next week it'll increase its rate to 6.3%, for both new and existing customers. Doing a comparison when rates are continuously rising can be misleading; to help I've included a 'Rate Rise Leveler', which notes whether each top account's rate includes the rise or not. BAD MONEYSAVERS! SHAME ON YOU! Check your credit files now, for free I was shocked when last week's site poll showed more than half of you have NEVER checked your credit reference files. That's not good. These carry a huge amount of data on us and one little error can mess up your financial future. You should check each of the three agencies once a year, if you've never done it, do it now. You've a statutory right to see the file for just 2 per agency, though I've a loophole that lets you do each online, instantly, for free. Have a go! Top Bank Account. £50 bonus with a 0% overdraft is back. Updated Article Alliance & Leicester's* refer a friend offer has jumped back to its previous highest level, £50. Existing current account customers who recommend it now get £50, as does the new customer. Better still, it's the top bank account for anyone who's overdrawn as it offers a 0% overdraft for the first year followed by 5.9% later. If you don't know any A&L customers with it, to receive yours, just team up with a friend to grab the £50 anyway; one joins, then recommends the other, meaning you both get the cash. Bank Charges Update: If they refuse to pay out, head for the Ombudsman, not Court The vast majority of people get £100s or £1,000s back just by writing letters and never getting close to court action. Yet if you don't get a satisfactory offer, go to Court and it's likely you'll win by default, though very occasionally legal issues do arise. Six weeks ago I introduced a guide to using the Financial Ombudsman as an alternative to Court. As the success rate is 100%, on balance the scales have just tipped in favour of this route. Though, if you're already at the Court stage, it's just a minor strategy shift, so don't worry, keep going.
