ITV1 Friday 26th 8pm. Tonight: Payback Time. I’m excited about my programme this Friday. PPI reclaiming could be even bigger than bank charges; anyone with a loan, credit/store card or mortgage should watch. There are 20 million of these policies out there in an industry with revenues of £5bn a year: three times as much as bank charges. In the programme I’ll be doing a reclaim school on how to check if you've been missold & get your cash back. It isn’t about compensation, but reclaiming unfairly taken cash. The site is at the centre of reclaiming, be it bank charges, credit card charges, council tax, mortgage exit fees or endowments. I think it's important not to confuse reclaiming with compensation. The aim is to get people money back that’s unfairly been taken from them; it's about correcting a wrong. Are you a successful reclaimer? Please report your successes in the links in the relevant article above. Most importantly, please spread the word about this site, by suggesting friends and family get this email too at moneysavingexpert.com/tips |

New top savings account. 6.41% instant-access & very strong guarantee.
ICICI’s HiSave* is the new instant access savings leader, paying 6.41% AER with no catches. While its new rate is only 0.01% above the previous leader (no coincidence, I’m sure), its rate guarantee is now much better, promising to beat the Bank of England base rate (currently 5.75%) by at least 0.3% until Dec 2011. Thus giving you certainty it’ll be a very good,
if not quite table-topping account, for a long time. Savings in ICICI, like all UK registered accounts, have official Govt protection on the first £35,000 in there. Full pros, cons & alternatives in the Updated Article:

50% off Tesco Home Insurance. Get a quote even if you're not at renewal!
Until 11 December Tesco* is repeating its 50% off offer on home insurance if you get it online or on the phone; most importantly the quote holds for 90 days; so even if you're not at renewal, grab a quote now and if it's cheapest buy later. It isn't automatically cheapest though, so before grabbing it, check its price against my usual plan to compare the market including using screenscraping websites

Are you paying a fee for your bank account? STOP IT! You're wasting £100+ a year
If you have a ‘packaged account’ by Barclays, NatWest, or others, watch out; for most people these are an absolute pile of pants. My guess is they called you or mailed you to say, “you’ll get much better facilities if you upgrade your account”. Think about whether you’ve ever used those facilities. Then consider how much you pay; e.g. £9 a month doesn’t sound much, but it’s over £100 a year! Not only that but you can get better rates elsewhere without paying a fee. Ditch them! Updated Article:

Slash your rent by 80%. Become a property guardian!
In return for babysitting empty properties to deter squatters, property firm Camelot Property charges its "guardians" just one-fifth of local rents. This works out at about £200 a month in London, elsewhere £150. Properties include farmhouses and castles, so there's a big chance you could end up living it up in a sprawling country pile for just £50 a week. I'd love your feedback.
