Sorry, we can't yet do a full comparison for all Hull postcodes.

This is because in some areas - though not all - there's only one provider of fixed landline and broadband services, which is KCOM. This makes it harder to do a full comparison.

We're working with our data provider to get a more accurate view of these boundaries but in the meantime, we apologise for any inconvenience.

How to switch broadband provider

Switching broadband provider may seem like a daunting task, but it's actually quite straightforward and could result in faster speeds, better service and could save you money. First, you'll want to compare deals using our Broadband comparison. Once you've found a deal that suits your needs and budget, you can submit an application via the new provider's site and you shouldn't need to tell your current provider you're leaving.

Do make sure you're out of contract, or close to the end of your current contract when deciding to leave as leaving within your contract term could result in hefty termination fees.

What happens when you switch to a new deal?

When you switch to a new broadband deal, you'll typically receive a new router from your provider and an activation date for when your new service will go live.

On activation day, depending on the provider, there could also be a short period of downtime while the switch takes place, but you'll usually be back online within a couple of hours. Once online, you'll need to set this up and connect all your devices to your new network.

How often should I change broadband providers?

If you're currently locked into a contract with your provider, you can't usually leave without paying an early termination fee, which can be expensive. But if you're out-of-contract, you're free to switch, without penalty so it's likely you could save by switching providers.

How long does it take?

The length of time it takes to switch broadband provider can vary depending on the provider and your specific circumstances. In most cases, the switch should take around two weeks to complete, although it could take longer if there are any issues or complications.

You'll usually be given an activation date and on this day, you may experience a short period of downtime while the switch takes place, but you should be back online fairly quickly.

It's important to note that you shouldn't cancel your current broadband service or direct debit until the switch is complete, as this could lead to a gap in service and delays in issuing you refund if you're due one. Overall, the switch should be a relatively quick and easy process, and your new provider should be able to provide you with a specific timeline for the switch.

What are the benefits to switching?

Switching broadband provider can result in lower costs, better speeds and improved customer service. By switching to a new provider, you may be able to take advantage of introductory deals, which could save you money over the long term. Alternatively, if it's been some time since you last switched, it's likely you'll be able to benefit from faster download and upload speeds, which can be particularly beneficial if you work from home or frequently stream videos or play games online.

Overall, switching providers regularly can be a great way to save money and improve your internet experience.

Can I switch mid-contract?

It is possible to switch broadband providers mid-contract, but you may have to pay hefty early termination fees. These fees can vary but they usually take into account how long is left on your current contract, so it's important to check these with your current provider before making any decisions.

Who we do and don't compare

This tool looks at 24 of the biggest providers, including the giants of BT, Sky and Virgin, plus special deals we've found or blagged which we believe are top picks. Yet there are also many small providers we can't list - which occasionally have cheap deals - so it's always worth checking direct with any local provider you know of.
Let us know if you find a top deal we've missed and see which providers this tool covers.

    Switching can save you £100s

Many get a cheap promo deal for broadband, line rent and/or TV, and stick with it when it ends, usually paying £100s/year more than they started with. Don't let it be you - compare now and see if you could save.

Fast advertised speeds don't mean faster broadband

Providers only have to advertise the average speed received by at least 50% of customers between 8pm and 10pm. Your actual speed can depend on a host of factors - see the full checklist of tips in broadband speed boosting.

  • 4

    Consider your need for speed

If it's just you and the dog, you're likely to be fine with standard speeds averaging around 11Mb. If you share a house, or you use the web for movie downloads, streaming or gaming, you may want to opt for faster speeds in excess of 30Mb.

    Beware of mid-contract switching costs

Usually you'll pay for the rest of the contract plus termination fees if you want to switch mid-contract. If your provider increases prices mid-contract and didn't warn you before you signed up, you can switch penalty-free within 30 days of notification of the price hike.
