15% rise in households switching energy
More than six million households switched energy supplier in 2015, a 15% rise on 2014, according to new figures from energy watchdog Ofgem.
The regulator said 6.1 million of the UK's 26.7 million households changed provider last year, the highest annual number since 2011. Some 40% of those switching opted for independent suppliers outside the 'big six' energy firms.

'Encouraging' levels of switching
Rachel Fletcher, Ofgem senior partner, says: "It’s encouraging to see switching levels at their highest level for four years. With more than 30 suppliers active in the energy market and hundreds of pounds of savings to be made, it’s a great opportunity to shop around.
"Whether customer service, price or both is what’s most important to you, remember you always have a choice. If your energy company isn’t up to scratch, vote with your feet and walk away."
