New collectible 10p coins launched - featuring a full English breakfast, fish and chips and James Bond

The collection of 26 new 10p designs, unveiled by the Royal Mint, is intended to be an A to Z of what makes Britain great - from the Angel of the North to a zebra crossing.

There will be 2.6 million coins released into general circulation overall - 100,000 of each design - alongside collectors' versions available to buy from the Royal Mint website.

The Royal Mint also has a "great British coin hunt" app, allowing coin hunters to create a digital collection of the coins they find in their change, and see a heat map of where the coins are being found.

The collection is being launched on the same day that the old £10 note is being officially withdrawn by the Bank of England.

'Check your change for miniature works of art'

Anne Jessopp, chief executive at the Royal Mint, said: "These designs were selected because we feel they represent a diverse mix of elements that make up the country we all love.

"There is a lot to be proud of in the UK - whether it's at the highest level, our Houses of Parliament representing democracy and freedom of speech, technological advancements such as Tim Berners-Lee's world wide web, or just a good cup of tea, it's all here in the designs.

"We hope the British public is inspired to take part in the great British coin hunt by checking their change for those miniature works of art that spell out just some of the many iconic themes that are quintessentially British."

When does the old £10 note get withdrawn?

As these new 10p coins come in, the old £10 is being withdrawn.

If you've any old tenners, the last day to use them is today - Thursday 1 March. After this date, retailers will no longer accept them.

It's not the end of the world if you happen to find an old-style £10 note tucked down the back of the sofa in the years ahead - while shops won't take them, the Bank of England guarantees that all banknotes it issues hold their value for "all time". That means you can still exchange them at face value with the Bank of England in London, in person or by post (at your own risk).
