Barclaycard to offer 10% off festivals - here's what you need to know
Barclaycard has launched a new set of benefits for its customers, including 5% discounts on tickets for thousands of live events each year, 10% off presale tickets for 10 major festivals in 2019, and 5% off food and drink at 19 gig venues.
It's part of the 'Barclaycard Entertainment' scheme, which has seen Barclaycard partner with events promoter Live Nation and music venue operator Academy Music Group to give discounts to new and existing customers.
However, while this is good news for existing cardholders who regularly go to gigs, it's unlikely that these perks alone will make it worth switching to Barclaycard. See our Credit Card Rewards guide for more top picks for points and cashback.
What are the new perks?
You can get 5% off tickets to more than 3,500 live events over the next year. These include concerts from the likes of Katy Perry and Lionel Richie, comedy acts including Jason Manford and Sarah Millican, and events such as the Chelsea Flower Show. See the Barclaycard website for a full list.
You'll also be able to get 10% off presale tickets to 10 major festivals in 2019, including Latitude, Leeds and Reading and the Isle of Wight Festival.
Plus you'll be able to get a 5% discount on food and drink purchases at any of the 19 O2 Academy venues in the UK (although alcoholic drinks are excluded from the discount at venues in Scotland).
How do you get the discounts?
You'll need to buy tickets via the Barclaycard Entertainment website using your personal or business Barclaycard (corporate or partner cards aren't eligible for the discount). Your discount will be automatically applied at the checkout and your tickets will be managed by Ticketmaster or Ticket Factory, so you'll need to contact them directly if you have any problems.
You'll get money off the basic ticket price - the discount doesn't apply to admin fees or delivery charges. It's always worth checking prices elsewhere first, as you may occasionally find special promotions on tickets through other sources.
If you're at an O2 Academy venue, you can claim your 5% discount on food and drink if you tell your server you're a Barclaycard customer when you make your order, and pay using your Barclaycard.
What does Barclaycard say?
Daniel Mathieson, head of experiential marketing and partnerships for Barclaycard, said: "Today's consumers want to spend on experiences rather than things, whether that's a day out at one of the UK's iconic music festivals or an intimate comedy show by an up-and-coming performer. With Barclaycard Entertainment we can offer cardholders exclusive benefits to help them get more out of every live event.
"In addition to offering new customer benefits, we're also excited to help more venues across the UK speed up their payments process. With technology changing faster than ever, it's important to keep up with consumer expectations and we're keen to use our expertise to ensure the entertainment industry stays competitive - and perhaps becomes a hotbed for innovation in the future."
