Customers of gas and electricity provider OneSelect, which stopped trading earlier this week, are being transferred to Together Energy.

Energy regulator Ofgem has appointed the Scottish firm to supply OneSelect's 36,000 domestic customers from today, after OneSelect ceased trading on Monday.

If you're a OneSelect customer, you WON'T lose your gas or electricity supply and any credit you have will be protected. Together Energy should be in touch in the coming days to let you know what happens next. It will also update you again when the transfer is complete and your account has been fully set up.

I was with OneSelect – what happens now?

Together Energy – a relatively new company with about 60,000 customers – will take over your supply from today, so your gas and electricity will continue as normal. Together Energy should write to you in the next few days to let you know what's happening, before contacting you again to let you know it has set you up with an account.

Your current tariff with OneSelect will end, and Together Energy has said it will place you on a special tariff for the next six months. We don't yet know the full details of this tariff, though it won't have exit fees so you're free to switch if it's not a good deal for you.

Once Together Energy contacts you to confirm you've been transferred to it, use our free Cheap Energy Club to see if you can save by switching. It's best to wait until you hear from Together Energy though, as switching before the transfer completes could lead to a long delay or the switch not going through.

It's also worth taking a meter reading as soon as possible, just in case you later have a billing dispute. If you need further support, Ofgem has a comprehensive set of FAQs.

What if I've already cancelled my direct debit with OneSelect?

If you did, Together Energy will be in touch to reinstate it over the next few weeks.

You should do this even if you intend to switch, as Together Energy will need it for your final bill.

If you haven't cancelled your direct debit with OneSelect, it should be transferred over when you move to Together Energy.

I'm in credit with OneSelect – will I get it back?

Yes. Together Energy will honour all credit balances. You can continue to use this to offset future energy use, or request a refund.

If you'd left OneSelect prior to it stopping trading and are owed credit, Together Energy will also honour this – you'll be contacted directly about getting your refund.

What if my OneSelect account was in debt?

It's not yet clear who will deal with this, but Ofgem says you'll be contacted by Together Energy or OneSelect's administrators.

What if I'd already started to switch to/away from OneSelect?

If you were in the process of switching away from OneSelect at the point it stopped trading, the switch should continue as normal – there's nothing you need to do.

Similarly, if you were in the process of switching to OneSelect, you'll be moved over to Together Energy and placed on the same tariff as existing OneSelect customers.

What does Ofgem say?

Ofgem's interim director for future retail markets Philippa Pickford said: "We are pleased to secure a deal with Together Energy, where OneSelect’s customers will be offered a competitive tariff for their energy. Their credit balances will be honoured and their energy supply will continue as normal.

"Together Energy will be in contact with customers over the coming days with further information. Once their account is fully set up, customers can shop around for a better deal if they wish to."
