Lidl shoppers can now buy reusable bags for fruit and veg if they don't want to put them in single-use plastic bags.

The so-called 'green bags' were launched in all stores nationwide today, and cost 69p for a pack of two.

Lidl's other environmental actions have included removing black plastic from its fruit and veg range, as well as replacing polystyrene pizza bases with cardboard and trialling removing its 9p reusable plastic bags from stores in Wales.

Other retailers are also trying ways to reduce plastic waste, such as allowing customers to bring containers for meat and fish, and trialling paper shopping bags.
