All reception year schoolchildren in Wales will start receiving free meals from September this year, with pupils in year one and year two to get free meals by April 2023, the Welsh Government has announced. It's expected that all 200,000 primary school children in Wales will receive free school meals by 2024.

The fare for single bus journeys in England will be capped at £2 between 1 January and 31 March next year, while in Scotland rail fares will be frozen until at least March 2023, both in an effort to help tackle the cost of living crisis. The bus fare cap will only apply to single journeys but the Department for Transport (DfT) said the move could save passengers an average of £3 per single fare.

Ovo Energy has announced a new support package for its customers, which will kick in this winter. Crucially, it plans to introduce a payment holiday for prepayment customers in debt from 1 October. Other measures include increasing the amount of emergency credit prepay users can get, offering free energy saving products and boiler services, plus additional funding for its grants scheme.
