Energy Secretary Chris Huhne today insisted proposed reforms of the electricity market provided the "best possible solution" to protect consumers against the kind of price hikes seen in recent days.
Wholesale energy prices are to be scrutinised by energy regulator Ofgem, after end of year results were this week revealed by five of the big six energy providers.
Centrica, the firm that owns British Gas, today says it's highly likely the company will put prices up. Consumers should urgently consider switching and fixing their energy deals.
