British Gas is to launch a customer rewards scheme from April that will include Sky TV deals and energy discounts for its longest-standing customers. However, it's not yet clear what the savings will be, so you should continue to keep an eye out for cheap deals available elsewhere.

Energy customers are still being given incorrect info about the switching process by big six firms, six weeks after MoneySavingExpert.com revealed suppliers had been wrongly telling those coming to the end of a fixed-term contract they'll have to pay an exit fee to switch provider.

Energy customers whose accounts were in credit when they closed them have been refunded almost £670 million over the past two years, according to Ofgem figures – which also show £97 million is still owed to in-credit customers. Contact your former supplier ASAP if you think you're among the many consumers owed money.

Energy giants British Gas and Npower have been wrongly telling customers coming to the end of their fixed-term contracts they'll have to pay exit fees if they switch to a different provider, MoneySavingExpert.com can reveal. Don't be fooled though – if you're in the last 49 days of your fix, you CAN switch penalty-free.

Gas and electricity provider GB Energy ceased trading at the weekend and the regulator Ofgem has appointed Co-operative Energy as the new supplier for the firm's 160,000 customers. Ofgem's also announced that Co-op Energy will be honouring customers' existing fixed tariffs.
