Poll

Poll Started: 07 Jan 08 The core assessment of anyone's finances is finding out if you spend more than you earn. The free Budget Planner tells you exactly that and was last week downloaded by over 30,000 people. What was your initial result (before you started planning any cut-backs)?

Poll Started 31 Dec 2007: What is cooking? Modern life’s changed; while many Old Style MoneySavers still cook every ounce of a meal, getting the best possible value out of every morsel of food, many more favour convenience allowing the supermarkets a role in dinner’s preparation. Scan down the list… which is the first point you would say is “cooking”?

How much with you spend on Christmas. I ran a similar poll two years ago and it will be interesting to see if the Credit Crunch is changing spending habits. How much do you think you will spend this year?

Poll Started 04 Dec 2007: A month ago I ran a poll to see how much debt people had compared to their annual income; the results (view them) were fascinating, so I thought this time I’d run a poll find out how much those who save have. How to work it out: Step 1: Add up all your savings. Then if you have any debts (excluding a mortgage) subtract that (though also read the Should I Pay Off My Debts With Savings article). Step 2: Divide the total by your annual income. E.g. If you’ve saved £5,000 and earn £20,000 your savings are a quarter of your earnings.

Poll Started 26 Nov 2007 So MoneySavers… Who are you and how old are you? As we don’t data mine on the site, I’ve no idea, and it’d be useful to know to work out how many people will be interested in certain deals… so please let us know.

Poll Started 17 Nov. Should squatters have rights? Roughly speaking, if a squatter enters an unoccupied building, without breaking and entering, and then secures the building like a home, they’ve a legal right to stay and it's tough to evict them. Some say that as properties are in short supply as they are right now, squatting ensures empty buildings are made use of, helping all of us; others say property ownership is a right and squatting is just legal theft. Which of the following is closest to your view?

Poll Started: 13 Nov 2007 It’s been a couple of weeks since the clock went back, heralding earlier evening darkness. There’s been much debate on whether we should adopt Central European Time; meaning later winter sunrises, but also an extra hour of daylight in the evening. There’s always lot of talk on the impact on Scotland as it's more northerly, so I’ve split out Scottish MoneySavers to see if geography makes a difference. Which of these is closest to your view?

Poll Started 05 Nov 07: Do you owe more than you earn? How much debt do you have compared to your annual income? We’re not talking any mortgage debt here; though if you’ve added other debts onto your mortgage, it's best to count that. Be prepared to be shocked… How to work it out? Step 1: Calculate your total debts. Don’t guess, add them up properly; this in itself is an important to-do. Step 2: Divide the total by your annual income. If you owe £5,000 and earn £20,000 your debts are a quarter of your earnings.
