9 April 2008: New FUN Car Insurance Job Picker Tool, Free Lucozade, £1 posh hotel rooms
This info may be out of date. Read this week's emails

NEW TOOL! The Car Insurance Job Picker;
Free Lucozade; New year 6.5% cash ISA;
£1 posh hotel rooms
And much, much more MoneySaving...

New tax year. How much will you earn now? The new tax year started on 6 April, the 10% income tax on earnings rate has gone, and all thresholds have changed. This means what you get in your paypacket changes even if your salary hasn’t. Some gain, some lose; this quick income tax changes note will let you know which you are.

It’s not just tax that’s on the up. Prices are on the rise across the board, yet by acting you can save on all the big changes: gas and electricity, mortgages, food and prescriptions.

Ensure you budget the changes. With prices rising, you have to be aware of the impact on your overall finances. The most important way is to use the Free Budget Planner tool to ensure you spend within your means. Also give yourself a full Money Makeover to systematically work through all bills & products and get the top deal.

PS. Thanks to the team. I’m taking a break this week… so having pre-written much of my stuff, I’m leaving this email in the capable hands of MSE Archna, Dan, Jenny and the rest of the MSE team. Hope it’s a good ‘un.

Did you get the special TalkTalk deal? Get the connection fee wiped
Two weeks ago, I headlined a special discounted TalkTalk deal via comparison site Uswitch, with line rental, broadband and free evening & weekend calls for £15/mth. Senior TalkTalk powers had confirmed to us it no longer had its one-off £30 connection fee. It was wrong; anyone who signed up will be charged it. While even with the fee, it's still the cheapest deal, after I remonstrated, TalkTalk's kindly agreed to compensate MoneySavers who signed up based on the wrong info. Want to earn £30 cashback/crate of wine on gas & elec comparisons?… don't go direct…
Compare to find the cheapest energy provider and it's possible to get cashback. That’s because due to a price war over MoneySavers' custom, the sites offer cashback if you switch via this site. Yet until last week, there was one comparison site, Moneysupermarket*, which also offered it direct. Now it too has stopped offering it if you go direct, but you can still get its £30 cashback for a dual fuel switch, via this site. Top Overall Comparison Service: Energyhelpline* pays £15 cashback per switch. Alternatives: Moneysupermarket* pays £30 cashback for dual fuel and uSwitch* gives a £40 crate of wine per switch. Is the licence fee worth it? In a word, no! Last Week’s Vote. It seems MoneySavers are becoming less enamoured with the licence fee over time, with a huge 75% of voters saying no, it's not worth it compared with 67% last time we ran this poll. Of the 25% that voted yes, only 5% cited Auntie's 'quality output' as their main reason for doing so, compared with 7% last time around. See Licence Fee poll results.
