Mighty Deals backtracks again after angering users for second time in days

Mighty Deals admits it incorrectly told more than 1,600 shoppers they couldn't get a £10 Tesco voucher for £5 after it unsubscribed them from its service, which it says it did in error – just days after angering users over the same voucher offer.

The site, which is owned by a company called MoneyExpert.com (which frustratingly sounds similar to us, MoneySavingExpert.com, but is a completely separate and unrelated site) recently offered a deal in which you pay £5 for a £10 Tesco voucher (it was never featured in our MoneySavingExpert.com Deals Section).

It told us after we got in touch about separate customer gripes with the offer that those who bought the deal and then unsubscribed as Mighty Deals customers would no longer get the offer and would be refunded in full.

However, after publishing this information on our site (see the Mighty Deals backtracks after imposing restrictions on Tesco offer news story), we were inundated with complaints by readers who said they'd been told by Mighty Deals they couldn't get the Tesco offer because they weren't subscribed.

We got in touch to ask Mighty Deals if it had made a mistake and it said this morning that it incorrectly unsubscribed 1,605 customers. It says it has since reinstated these accounts and that customers will still receive their Tesco £10 for £5 gift card redemption link on 15 May.

It also says that it has emailed affected customers to explain and apologise, and that they they don't need to do anything further to get the deal. But if you think you're affected and haven't received an email, get in touch with Mighty Deals' customer services.

What about those who bought the deal multiple times?

Mighty Deals also told us on Tuesday (12 May) that those who broke its terms and conditions and bought the deal more than once, and households that bought the offer more than twice, will no longer get the offer at all, and that they will be refunded in full.

The deals site says there has not been an error with incorrect emails being sent to these customers, but if you believe you shouldn't have had the deal cancelled because you haven't bought it multiple times, then get in touch with Mighty Deals' customer services.

Second Mighty Deals blunder this week

It's the second blunder made by the deals site in the last few days after it initially sparked anger for what appeared to be an attempt to dilute the Tesco gift card deal.

Our forum users who took up the offer complained they'd received an email from Mighty Deals saying that in order to get the Tesco voucher, they'd now have to spend an additional £5 – given to them in the form of free credit by Mighty Cash – on the site.

When we got in touch, Mighty Deals told us customers don't need to buy anything else on its site to get the Tesco gift card, and that the communication it sent out was 'worded incorrectly'. It has since amended its forum post.

However, as a minimum spend was not listed in the terms and conditions of the deal, this attempt to seemingly restrict the number of people getting the deal left many shoppers disappointed.

Remember, Mighty Deals has NOTHING to do with MoneySavingExpert or Martin Lewis.
