U Account axes prepaid card service from today – here's what you need to know
U Account holders can no longer access their accounts or use their prepaid cards to spend or withdraw cash as the digital bank closed the service from midday today (Tuesday 3 May). The app-based account is also no longer available to new users.
U Account first warned customers of its plans to close in March 2022. At the time, it told users to withdraw or transfer out any money in their accounts by 12pm on Tuesday 3 May, and to ensure any regular payments made into or out of their accounts were cancelled or re-directed before this date.
If you've yet to transfer or withdraw money from your account, you can continue to contact U Account's customer services oninfo@uaccount.uk, and it will transfer any cash to an alternative account. You should also tell any providers that pay money into your account, such as your employer, that they can no longer do so as of today.
U Account said it will contact customers by email who receive payments into their account after 3 May. If you think you're due a refund, it's worth contacting U Account's customer services to ensure your contact details are correct as you can no longer log in to the app. You can also use the email address above to query any transactions after Tuesday 3 May.
We've asked U Account why it's closed the service and how many customers this impacts and we'll update this story if we get a response.
