First Utility is the latest energy supplier to hike its standard variable tariff - with a 5.9% increase set to hit on Monday 23 July, adding £67 a year to a typical household bill.

More than 100,000 First Utility customers on the firm's standard variable tariff will face an average 9.7% hike in their energy bills from 1 April. If you're affected, check now if you can beat the hike and slash your bills by switching to a cheap fixed deal.

Just over 1,000 homes in Northern Ireland which were supplied electricity by small provider Open Electric have been transferred to Power NI after the regulator revoked its licence. If you were an Open Electric customer, you won't lose your electricity supply, but it's still unclear if you'll get your money back if you were in credit.

Co-op Energy was a customer service darling last December, with 63% of its customers rating it great and just 7% rating it poor. But in a staggering turnaround, just six months later over half of its customers (56%) rate its service as poor and just 22% rate it great.
