Sainsbury's has added a new 'Spend Lock' feature to its Nectar loyalty app that prevents your points from being redeemed without your knowledge. It follows a spate of complaints in recent months from shoppers claiming their points had been stolen.

If you're a regular Superdrug shopper, you can now earn more freebies and discounts under its Health & Beautycard loyalty scheme, as the retailer has launched new 'VIP Rewards' as part of it. However, you should still compare prices elsewhere before buying – just because the store is adding new perks, it doesn't mean it's the cheapest. Here's what you need to know before you shop. 

Over £15 million worth of unused Clubcard vouchers, belonging to over three million customers, are set to expire at the end of the month – and now is a good time to use them while you can still triple their value. Swathes of frustrated British Airways customers have been unable to convert their Avios frequent flyer points into Nectar rewards because of a glitch with the airline's systems, which has resulted in an outpouring of anger online.

Pret Coffee subscribers will be the first to take part in a new loyalty scheme, which is initially being rolled out on a trial basis. Customers will be able to collect stars on every transaction they make, which can later be used to obtain free food and drink.

Nectar card-holders may be able to save "£200/year" at Sainsbury's when they use its SmartShop app to scan items as they shop in store, as it'll trigger cost-cutting deals of up to 30% off. If you don't have a smartphone, you can get the offers when you use in-store scanners, and this all on top of normal Nectar perks. However, you can't get these deals when shopping online.
