Kelvin Goodson

Consumer Writer

Kelvin joined MSE as Consumer Writer in August 2017. He moved to London to go to university and started out as a music writer in the early 2000s. Realising music writing wasn't going to make it easy to afford food, he moved into news writing, then technology, before returning home to Norfolk for a couple of years for stints in freelancing, content marketing and angling.

He's an embattled Norwich City supporter of some years and into music of the alternative/indie/unlistenable variety. He also enjoys cycling, lame films, making sandwiches, proper beer, running, shooting, swimming, walking the dog and collecting cats.

It's been a while, but I'm back with more tales of mending my MoneyWasting ways. If you're new to MoneySavingIdiot, here's how it works – as a writer at MoneySavingExpert I help people save money, yet I suck at practising what we preach. So I'm sharing my attempts to change that in the hope of encouraging other non-natural MoneySavers. Previously, I've tackled train delays, overseas travel, credit scores and reclaiming cash from old emails. This week: switching bank.

Did you miss the first two sure-to-be-award-winning MoneySavingIdiot blogs (on train delays and travelling abroad)? If so, then here's the idea. Although working at MSE means I help people save money, I suck at doing the same for myself. So I'm attempting to improve my cash-related competence and help inspire other non-natural MoneySavers. This week: credit scores.

If you missed my debut MoneySavingIdiot blog from last month (on claiming for a train delay), first of all – how dare you. Secondly, the basic premise is that while I help people save money every day by writing for MSE, I'm not always so clever when it comes to my own cash, so I'm sharing my quest to be better with it in the hope of inspiring other non-natural MoneySavers. This week: travel tips.

My name is Kelvin, I'm a features writer at MoneySavingExpert.com... and I'm an idiot with money. I've no excuse – after all, I write for the UK's biggest consumer website. But sadly, while I play a part in helping people save every day using MSE, my personal relationship with cash is a mix of fleeting highs and lingering regret.
