Some clearance stock can be cheaper in store but the range on Argos's eBay outlet* makes it worth a look.

Most products it sells are new, and where items are refurbished, they're clearly noted. It's also worth checking Argos's in-store clearance finder* which allows you to find bargains available in store.

Argos logoArgos: MoneySaving tips & tricks*Incl free Click & Collect, haggling & clearance

Ongoing

There are always ways to save money at Argos*, so even if there isn't a cracking discount code or sale out there that works for you, don't assume you can't cut your costs further.

Ways to save money at Argos include:

  • Free Check & Reserve. This allows you to save on delivery costs by reserving an item online and collecting it from an Argos store (find your nearest*). Of course, this will depend on your local store having your item in stock.

  • Try haggling. We polled 1,400 MoneySavers to find out in which shops they had most success haggling, and 17% said they'd managed to blag a discount at Argos - so it's probably worth a try if you're brave enough. Read our Haggle on the High Street guide for more haggling tips.

  • 'Free' Argos vouchers. Argos regularly does an offer where you can get a 'free' £5 voucher when you spend £50, or a £10 voucher when you spend £100, to use on your next Argos visit.

  • Check the online offers page. The Argos offers page* lists current deals from all sections of the site.

  • Check out similar retailers, eg, Amazon and Tesco Direct. If you're not committed to buying from Argos, check out our deals from other places such as AmazonJohn Lewis and Tesco Direct, where there may be a better offer.

  • Had a problem with Argos? There’s a free online tool you can use to complain – it helps draft, manage and if necessary escalate your complaint. It’s offered by a firm called Resolver, which we like so much we work with it to help people get complaints justice – you can use it to complain to Argos*.

If you spot any hot deals out there we have missed (we are human after all!), please let us know on Twitter @MSE_Deals or by emailing us at msedeals@moneysavingexpert.com.

To get the most out of this offer, look at how much you're spending and consider whether it can be divided into multiple transactions. For example, buy two pieces of furniture for £100+ each and you'll come away with a £10 voucher... buy them separately and you'll get two £10 vouchers.

Lego logoLego Star Wars 20 toy advent calendar*Incl minifigures & accessories. Next cheapest 23

Expired

If you or someone you know is a big Lego and Star Wars fan then ewok this way as we've found a deal on a Lego Star Wars advent calendar.

MSE Update, Fri 17 Nov: Asda* is currently running a 25% off advent calendars offer which means you can get this calendar for £17.25 (price displays as £23 but discounted price will show at checkout) when you collect in store, making it cheaper than Argos. We've asked Asda when this offer will end and we'll update here when it tell us.

You can get the advent calendar online at Argos* for £19.99 (was £29.99) until Tue 21 Nov, while stock lasts. Collect in store for free or delivery's £3.95. We think this is going to be popular so if you want it, go quick and don't Lego of this deal.

Lego Star Wars toy advent calendarWhat's in the advent calendar?

Suitable for age six and above, there are 24 pieces in total (see image below) including:

  • Seven Lego Star Wars minifigures and Christmas minifigure.
  • Vehicles including Millenium Falcon, Stormtrooper transport, The Phantom, The Ghost, Rey's speeder, Snowspeeder, Kylo Ren's command shuttle, Y-wing, TIE striker, hovertank, AT-ST, blaster cannon, snow blower and a sled.
  • Weapons and accessories.

Is it good value?

There are seven minifigures that normally cost £3ish each in this advent calendar and 17 additional pieces, so the minifigures alone are better value in this £20 set compared with buying them individually.

Verdict

If you've been after this Lego Star Wars calendar, this is the cheapest we've seen it (the next cheapest we found was £23 at Asda). The advent calendar seems like decent value at this price compared with buying the contents individually, and of course, some of the pieces are unique to this advent calendar so may be appealing to a collector.

Section 75

Free protection for all shopping!

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
