If you click a link with an * to go through to a provider, we may get paid. This usually only happens if you get a product from it. This is what funds our team of journalists, and keeps us free to use. Yet there are two crucial things you need to know about this.
- This never impacts our editorial recommendations – if it's in, it's in there because we independently rate it best.
- You'll always get as good a deal (or better) than if you went direct.

If you sign up to the Build-A-Bear Workshop loyalty scheme, on your child’s birthday they can make a bear in-store (normally £14) and pay their age in pounds. For example, three-year-olds get a bear for £3.
How do I get this offer?
- Sign up to the free Bonus Club loyalty scheme, online in advance or in-store – a grown-up will have to do this.
- A child under 14 should attend during their birthday month with a grown-up aged over 18 to claim a discounted bear (you can't claim this offer online).
- Let the workshop know you're celebrating a birthday to get this offer.
As the special birthday bears in this offer are normally £14, it's for kids aged under 14 years.
Build-A-Bear says no proof of age is needed – it’s done on trust – but you might be told to get stuffed if you try telling them your 12-year-old is six.
Which bears can I get and how much are they normally?
The offer only applies to the Make-Your-Own Birthday Treat Bear or Birthday Bear, when visiting a store. You'll get a special birthday heart for your bear, a birthday hat and sticker, and you can take a photo with special birthday props.
However, it's only either of the bears that are included in this offer. You'd need to pay for any clothing, accessories, sounds or scents you choose to add. If your child's under one, you'll pay £1.

£12 off Build-A-Bear voucher
Makes some bears £2. In stores only
ExpiredOn Thu 12 Jul, there were chaotic scenes in the Build-A-Bear Workshops, with stores being so busy during its 'pay your age' day promotion, people were left queueing for hours and others turned away (see our Build-A-Bear stuffs up its ‘pay your age’ promo news story).
Build-A-Bear has told us that to say sorry for this, it's issuing everyone who’s joined its free loyalty scheme, Bonus Club, a £12 off voucher to spend in stores. Simply log into your account by 11.59pm on Wed 18 Jul to get your voucher – it even worked for us when we set up a totally new account, however we can't guarantee it'll work for everyone. You'll then have until Fri 31 Aug to use it.
The voucher can be used in stores only and on the Make-Your-Own bears. We've asked Build-A-Bear for a price list and we're yet to hear back from it on this, however when we checked in the store closest to MSE Towers, the cheapest bear we found was £14, meaning you could get a bear for £2. Unlike the previous promotion, children do not need to attend the store to get the deal.
We’re hoping this time round it’ll be a smoother operation, but as the last Build-A-bear offer was such a mess we suggest you half-prepare yourself for disappointment just in case it fluffs up again.
MSE Laura picked up this bunny on Fri 13 Jul for £2 using the voucher
Is it possible to get a FREE bear?
We've asked Build-A-Bear if you can use the £12 off voucher to get a totally free bear should you manage to find one in store priced at less than £12. While it hasn't answered our question, the voucher T&Cs state "no cash return for purchases under the value of voucher", which suggests there’s no minimum spend.
While we haven’t managed to find a sub-£12 bear ourselves, we’ve heard from others who have – so it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled. Although it's probably best to check you can use your voucher to get the bear free before having it stuffed. It's one voucher per transaction. See 'more info' below for more T&Cs.
You can also use the voucher on branded bears such as Star Wars, My Little Pony and Pokémon etc., so you could grab a Pikachu for £9.50.
