The free British Red Cross first aid app guides you through how to deal with a range of emergencies such as choking, heart attacks, seizures, asthma attacks, and burns. It's available to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play for Android.

The app covers 20 first aid skills, using simple step-by-step guides, and works without internet. The British Red Cross says the training is suitable for anyone.

15-minute tutorial via online downloadable tool

The British Heart Foundation's interactive online RevivR tool lets you learn CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation – an emergency procedure performed when the heart stops beating) for free.

You'll just need a cushion or bag, and the training takes 15 minutes. The tool can be accessed online and downloaded on a digital device such as a phone or tablet.

The steps you'll go through are:

1. Learn to identify a cardiac arrest

2. Make a simulated emergency call

3. Perfect your CPR technique

4. Learn how to use a defibrillator

You'll receive your very own CPR certificate upon completion, and while this doesn't equal a first aid qualification, in an emergency it could be a lifesaver. Don't worry if you've never learnt any first aid before, as the British Heart Foundation says the training is simple and anyone can learn CPR.

The British Red Cross provides a free Baby & Child First Aid app, available to download from the Apple App Store or Google Play for Android.

It's designed to help parents, grandparents, and caregivers learn 17 first aid skills through simple, step-by-step guides, videos, animations, and interactive quizzes.
