Brewdog logoBrewdog 20 beer tasting & cheeseboard for 2*Get voucher via daily deals site (norm 40)

32 locations

If you go to daily deals site Groupon* you can pay £19.99 to get a voucher for a Brewdog tasting experience for two, including five beers each plus a cheese platter to share.

The tours are running at 32 locations across the UK - full list in 'more info' below - and you can use the voucher Sun-Thu from 4 Jun to 1 Sep, but you must have bought the voucher and booked your tour by 15 Aug.

The tutored tour, which Brewdog says normally costs £40, will last about 90 minutes with a Brewdog member of staff guiding you through each beer. There'll be a maximum of eight people per tour. Each of the craft beers will be 1/3 of a pint (18cl), and of various types depending on stock, but will normally include a lager, a pale ale, an IPA and a stout.

As for the cheese platter, the spread contains a variation of cheddar, goat's cheese and blue cheese. We've written all this while resisting the urge to include embarrassing cheesy puns – we hope you'll brie impressed.

Once you've bought your voucher from Groupon, you'll then receive an email which will prompt you to book your slot online on the Groupon scheduler (you can't book over the phone). Make sure to print or show the Groupon voucher on your smartphone to your chosen venue.

Before you buy, is it worth it?

A full-price adult ticket for a 2D film at Odeon can cost £3-£17ish depending on location. As this offer gets tickets for £5, it's only worth getting if you usually pay more. For example, at London's Tottenham Court Road Odeon, you could save around £11 for an adult ticket as they're up to £16.50 each, whereas in Dorchester, the price is only £3.75 for some showings, so this Groupon offer wouldn't be worth getting.

Before buying, also check prices at your local cinema as some independent chains may be cheaper.

Unfortunately, the vouchers aren't valid with the Meerkat Movies deal, which gets you 2for1 cinema tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays – see our Deals Hunter blog Meerkat Movies trick: £1ish gets 2for1 movies for a year. If your local Odeon sells tickets for less than £10, you may be able to get a cheaper deal with Meerkat Movies on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Other terms and conditions

Vouchers can't be used with any other offer or discount voucher including Bargain Mondays, Meerkat Movies, Tesco Clubcard, Odeon Limitless card, The Times, Sunday Times, Odeon points or other Groupon offers.

The offer excludes 3D, IMAX, iSENSE, Gallery, Premier seats, Luxe cinemas, Luxe screens, D-box seats, love seats, club seats, super luxury seats, recliner seats or any other premium-priced seat. It also won't work with Odeon Newbies, Kids, Silver Cinema, Event Cinema or Screen Unseen.

Vouchers cannot be used to buy 3D glasses, gift cards, food or drink.

The tickets must be for personal use only – so the vouchers can't be used on school bookings, corporate or private hire, or third-party bulk ticket bookings.

The tickets are valid for 2D screenings only until Wed 25 Apr. Groupon says there is an unlimited number of tickets available, and the deal will run until Fri 20 Apr, though it could pull the deal early if it becomes too popular, as it did with a similar offer in the past.

The vouchers won't work for online, app or ticket machine bookings – only when getting tickets from the box office, so you may need to arrive at the cinema early in case a showing sells out.

Exclusions, including when you can't see some blockbuster films

You can use a voucher at all Odeon cinemas, except Leicester Square, The Lounge at Whiteleys and BFI IMAX and it doesn't include 3D or IMAX showings. You can use them over the weekends, which you can't do with most other deals. Before buying, check prices at your local cinema as some independent chains may be cheaper.

Unfortunately, the voucher isn't valid with the Meerkat Movies deal, which can get you 2for1 cinema tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (see our Deals Hunters blogMeerkat Movies trick: £2ish gets 2for1 movies for a year). So check which offer works out cheaper for you - if your local Vue sells tickets for less than £8, you may be able to get a cheaper deal with Meerkat Movies on those days.

National Express logoNational Express 40% off code for 2*Via Groupon. Travel Jan-Mar on most UK routes

Expired

If you're looking to travel by coach in the new year, you can buy a code for £2 from Groupon* that gets 40% off most UK routes with National Express*. If your journey is going to cost more than £5 (before any discount and before the £1 booking fee), using the code could save you money – unless you can find a 'funfare' for cheaper (see 'how to book' below).

You can use the discount on standard fares (single or return, not 'funfares') for travel until Fri 31 Mar, excluding Fri 10 Feb to Mon 20 Feb (half-term holiday). It's valid on all seats on all UK journeys except airport routes, festival and events packages, those operated by third parties and Eurolines.

You'll need to book at least three days before travel and before Tue 28 Feb, or sooner if all codes are snapped up. As of Tue 3 Jan, there were 37,000 codes left.

How do I book it?

  • Check the cost of a standard ticket on National Express, then see if an online advance ‘funfare’ is available as this starts from £5 and could be better for you (once you've selected your coach you'll see which type of fares are available). Also check the price on Megabus*.
  • If the standard National Express fare is cheapest and £5+, go to Groupon and pay £2 for your code and PIN.
  • Then book through this National Express* link and enter your code and PIN. Booking fee’s £1 after discount and you'll need to print your tickets.
  • Coach tickets are non-refundable, but if you can't find a journey you want after you've bought a code, you can get a £2 refund through Groupon within 14 days.

Each Groupon code is for one person and you can get a maximum of four codes per transaction.

  • Once you've bought your voucher, log in to your Groupon account and go to 'My Groupons' in the top-right corner.
  • Click 'view voucher' next to the Odeon deal and your voucher will appear on screen - it will contain a link, which you need to follow to redeem your code.

  • Unique codes will appear on screen for each of your cinema tickets - a copy will also be sent to the email address you used to register with Groupon.

Before you buy, is it worth it?

Section 75

Free protection for all shopping!

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
