Hotpoint logoSafety notice: Hotpoint fridge freezerCheck model/serial number and register for updates

Fri 23 Jun

Hotpoint fridge freezerHotpoint has issued a safety notice after one of its fridge freezers was linked to the Grenfell Tower fire.

While Hotpoint has not yet ordered a recall, it is getting the details of people who have a certan model while it carries out a safety investigation.

Hotpoint says you should check your fridge freezer for either of the following model numbers:

  • FF175BP (White)
  • FF175BG (Graphite)

The affected fridge freezers were manufactured between March 2006 and July 2009.

How do I find the model/serial number?

Hotpoint says the model and serial number are usually located on a sticker inside the fridge, behind the salad container. Look for a model data label as illustrated below.

For advice, you can call Hotpoint customer services on 0800 316 3826 (Mon-Fri 8am-6.30pm, Sat 8.30am-5.30pm, Sun 9.30am-3.30pm). Alternatively, you can use its live chat online.

What does Hotpoint say?

Whirlpool, which owns Hotpoint, said: "Words cannot express our sorrow at this terrible tragedy. We offer our most profound condolences to the victims, those who have lost loved-ones, homes, and possessions, and to their friends and families. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved, including the emergency services who risked their lives to extinguish the blaze and rescue those in the building.

“We have just been informed that the fire may have originated in a Hotpoint fridge freezer (model number FF175BP). We are working with the authorities to obtain access to the appliance so that we can assist with the ongoing investigations. Under these circumstances, we are unable to speculate on further details at this time.

"We are addressing this as a matter of utmost urgency and assisting the authorities in any way we can. We will provide additional updates as our investigations progress."

Hotpoint logoWhirlpool/Hotpoint extra 35% off appliances*Blagged code for clearance. Eg, 300 washing machine 195

Expired

Enter the MSE Blagged code 35OFF online at the Hotpoint factory outlet* by Sun 31 Jan to get 35% off all items in its clearance store.

The store used to only sell Indesit and Hotpoint large appliances, such as cookers, washing machines and fridges. But it now sells Whirlpool products too, as well as smaller appliances, including kettles, microwaves and irons. While most of the appliances are discontinued at Hotpoint, some of them are still on sale elsewhere for substantially more.

Delivery's free and there's a free removal and disposal service for large appliances (this isn't available for small appliances). There's a charge if you want an engineer to connect a new large appliance, which ranges from £8.40 to £60.

These are end of line models and stock's very limited - once it's gone it's gone, so go quick if you're after a particular item.

As it's a clearance site, not all the appliances can be found elsewhere, but we’ve found a few items for similar prices at other online retailers, so the code is what makes this deal hot. Of course, do check prices and compare for yourself before you buy.

Here are some of the better discounts we found using the code on Tue 19 Jan:

  • Hotpoint microwave (MWH2322X) - £65.90 (£101.39 before code, next cheapest we found is £99 at AO.com).
  • Hotpoint iron (SGC10AA0) - £80.21 (£123.40 before code, next cheapest we found is £149.99 at Amazon).
  • Whirlpool washing machine (WWDC72101) - £194.99 (£299.99 before code, next cheapest we found is £349 at Tesco).
  • Indesit fridge freezer (BCTAA55NF) - £269.09 (£413.99 before code, next cheapest we found is £289.99 at The Co-operative Electrical).

Enter the MSE Blagged code 35OFF online at the Hotpoint factory outlet* by Tue 30 Jun to get 35% off all items in its clearance store. We've featured codes for 30% off before, but this is the biggest discount we've seen yet for Hotpoint's large appliances.

All appliances on the site have a one-year guarantee for labour. There's also a 10-year guarantee for parts, but only if you get Hotpoint's engineers to fit them at a standard price.

Section 75

Free protection for all shopping!

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
