If you click a link with an * to go through to a provider, we may get paid. This usually only happens if you get a product from it. This is what funds our team of journalists, and keeps us free to use. Yet there are two crucial things you need to know about this.
- This never impacts our editorial recommendations – if it's in, it's in there because we independently rate it best.
- You'll always get as good a deal (or better) than if you went direct.

LNER train tickets from £5
200,000 available across 20 locations
ExpiredLNER has priced over 200,000 single tickets from just £5 in its 'Seat Sale'. You'll be able to travel to over 20 different locations across the UK, and you'll find them on selected routes such as York to London, and Birmingham to London, for travel between Mon 6 Sep – Fri 15 Oct, but be prepared to hunt around for them. You'll be able to purchase the discounted tickets until 9am on Wed 1 Sep.
How to get the discounted tickets
To get the discounted tickets, you’ll need to book an adult or child (5-15 years) ticket on the LNER website or via its app (Android/IOS). You won't be able to get this offer at station ticket offices. Return journeys don’t qualify so you’ll need to book two singles – be sure to check if this makes the total journey cheapest.
As the promotional routes cover various destinations and dates, it will be trial and error finding the cheaper seats. There'll be more availability the further in advance you book and it helps if you can be flexible on dates and destination.
LNER has said there are 150,000 tickets available for 'Standard Class' and 50,000 tickets available for 'First Class'.
