Vodafone has today announced it will join Orange in selling Apple's iPhone handsets.

The network intends to offer the smartphone "in early 2010". Orange announced yesterday it will start selling the iPhone "later this year" (see the Orange to sell iPhone MSE News story).

Both networks are yet to release tariff and pricing details, though the pair will stock the 3G and recently-launched 3GS handsets (see the Cheap iPhones guide).

The iPhone is currently sold exclusively by O2 in the UK, which will continue to offer it alongside Orange and Vodafone (see the Cheap Mobiles guide).

It is hoped the increased competition will bring prices down for consumers, with some speculating the networks will engage in a price war to grab new custom.

It currently costs up to £528 to buy the 3GS handset.
