Energy customers may have to fork out £30 more a year on their bills by 2020 to prevent winter blackouts sweeping the country, a group of MPs has warned.

EDF Energy is cutting gas prices from January but will increase the cost of electricity from March, meaning dual fuel customers on its standard tariff will pay 1.2% more overall. If you're on its standard tariff you're almost certainly overpaying already, so check NOW if you can switch and save.

Ovo Energy has agreed to pay £58,000 to charity after its agents missed appointments with customers, or turned up late, and then failed to compensate them as required by the regulator.

British Gas, E.on, SSE and some smaller suppliers have announced energy price freezes till the end of winter. Yet if you're one of the 66% on one of their standard tariffs they're typically freezing you at £200/yr MORE than the cheapest.

Gas and electricity provider GB Energy ceased trading at the weekend and the regulator Ofgem has appointed Co-operative Energy as the new supplier for the firm's 160,000 customers. Ofgem's also announced that Co-op Energy will be honouring customers' existing fixed tariffs.
