Energy bills will be capped at £2,500 a year for a typical household from 1 October 2022 for the next two winters, Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced. A £400 energy rebate will also continue to be paid as planned from October. Here's MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin Lewis' round-up.

A technical hitch at energy suppliers E.on Next and Sainsbury's Energy - which are both operated by E.on - means potentially thousands of customers will have their direct debit payments taken two weeks later than usual, and so users should put aside enough cash in their accounts to cover the bill when it is due.

Households on a low income and in receipt of certain benefits may be able to get £140 off their energy bill under the Warm Home Discount scheme. But many major suppliers have now closed their schemes for 2021/22 and only Bulb, E.on, E.on Next, and So Energy are still accepting applications – so apply as soon as possible to ensure you don't miss out.
