Millions of Vodafone customers will be hit with price hikes of up to 4.5% next month, the telecoms provider has confirmed. But only those who are out of contract can cancel penalty-free. Here's what's happening.

Three and Vodafone customers will be hit with price hikes of up to 4.5% over the next few months, the telecoms providers have confirmed. But only those who are out of contract can cancel penalty-free. 

Vodafone and Three pay-monthly mobile or broadband customers who sign up to a new deal or upgrade to a fresh contract face steep price hikes next year, after the companies made changes to their terms and conditions. Once you've agreed to a new deal – from 29 October for Three, and 9 December for Vodafone – you're locked into the price rise, so it's important to be aware of it BEFORE you sign up.

Most broadband and home phone customers will be automatically compensated for loss of service, delayed installations or missed appointments, under an agreement struck between the biggest telecoms providers and the industry watchdog.

Vodafone customers on pay-monthly mobile contracts and mobile broadband contracts will see a 2.5% price rise from next month.

O2 and Three will increase prices for their pay-monthly mobile customers by 2.5%, after EE confirmed it would be hiking prices by 2.7%.
