Baileys logoBaileys £13 advent calendar*At Debenhams. Incl one 50ml Baileys bottle and 23 mini truffles

Online only

If you or someone you know enjoys Baileys, Debenhams is offering a Baileys advent calendar* online for £13 – one for grown-ups as it includes a mini bottle of Baileys and 23 Baileys truffles.

It's currently out of stock but while we await its return, we thought we'd peek behind the doors to see if this Baileys advent calendar is the cream of the crop, or leaves a sour taste in the mouth of a MoneySaver.

What does the advent calendar contain?

Baileys advent calendar

Behind one of the advent doors is a 50ml mini bottle of Baileys Original Irish Cream, and behind each of the remaining 23 doors you'll find a Baileys mini truffle.

Is it good value?

We've spotted 50ml bottles of Baileys Original Irish Cream for £1.50ish, so if we deduct that from the overall £13 cost of the calendar, that essentially makes the 23 truffles 50p each.

You can currently get a 102g bag of Baileys mini truffles for £2 at Asda*, which contains 17 truffles per bag – making each truffle 12p.

Unsurprisingly, the Baileys advent calendar isn't the cheapest way to get a small Baileys fix over the festive season.

But of course, advent calendars like this are a bit of fun, and you may want to give it as a gift. So if you're happy with the overall £13 price, you may not be too worried about the value you're getting behind the doors.

Section 75

Free protection for all shopping!

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
