Expired Deals

Co-op Food logoCo-op 10 Christmas dinner meal dealIncl frozen turkey, roast potatoes & Yorkshire puds (separately 21ish)

Expired

You can get a frozen Christmas meal deal containing seven specific items for £10 (worth £20.52 bought separately) if you go to a participating Co-op store by Wed 3 Jan.

Co-op says it’ll feed four – though it’ll be less if you’ve a big appetite – and you'll need to buy ALL of these items to get the £10 deal:

  • Bacon wrapped turkey joint 962g with sage and onion stuffing balls - cheapest similar we found elsewhere, £6 at Iceland
  • McCain roast potatoes 800g - cheapest we found elsewhere, £1 at Ocado
  • Aunt Bessie’s 12 Yorkshire puddings 220g - cheapest we found elsewhere, £1 at Iceland
  • Aunt Bessie’s honey glazed roast parsnips 500g - cheapest we found elsewhere, £1 at Ocado and Asda
  • Co-op button sprouts 750g - cheapest similar we found elsewhere, £0.95 at Asda
  • Co-op garden peas 400g - cheapest similar we found elsewhere, £0.69 at Iceland
  • Mint Viennetta box 1,000ml - cheapest similar we found elsewhere, £1 at multiple supermarkets

Is this deal any good?

The normal price for these seven items at Co-op is £20.52, but the cheapest we found for similar items elsewhere is £11.64 - though you'd have to shop at different supermarkets - so we reckon this is a decent deal for £10 all-in. We’re not sure it can be called a Christmas dinner without the pigs in blankets and Christmas pud, but it’s still a good price if you want to stick the grub in the freezer for a later date.

Christmas food & drink logoCheap Christmas chocolates round-upIncl 1.50 Cadbury selection boxes, 4 Quality Street

Expired

If your supermarket shopping basket is normally choc-a-block with sweet treats at Christmas, this one’s for you...

Here's a round-up of the cheapest prices per gram that we found for popular Christmas chocs including Celebrations, Cadbury selection box and Ferrero Rocher on Mon 18 Dec:

  • Quality Street tub, 750g - £4 (53.3p per 100g) at Tesco and Asda*. Next cheapest we found, £4.50 at Iceland.
  • Celebrations tub, 680g - £4 (58.8p per 100g) at Asda*. Next cheapest we found, £5 at most of the other major supermarkets.
  • Cadbury Heroes tub, 1kg - £6 (60p per 100g) at Tesco, was £8. Next cheapest we found, £18.85 at Amazon.
  • After Eight box, 300g - £2 (66.7p per 100g) at Asda*, Morrisons*, Tesco and Sainsbury’s*. Next cheapest we found, £3 at Waitrose.
  • Cadbury Heroes pack, 290g – two for £4 (69p per 100g) at Tesco, £3 individually. Next cheapest we found, two for £5.50 at Ocado.
  • Cadbury selection box, 169g – two for £3 (88.8p per 100g) at Morrisons*. Next cheapest we found, £2 each at most of the other major supermarkets.
  • Ferrero Rocher, 16 pack – three for £10 (£1.67 per 100g) at Asda*. Next cheapest we found, two for £7 at Tesco and Waitrose.

Supermarkets are constantly switching offers, which means these examples could change between now and Christmas Day, so be sure to do your own price comparison.

Watch out for smaller tubs

When comparing prices from last year, we've noticed that although some of the chocs were the same price, the weight of the chocs are now less – such as the Celebrations tub (680g this year, compared with 750g last year) and the Cadbury selection box (169g this year, compared with 180g last year).

When buying chocolates, always have a look at the different size boxes and check the price per gram marked on the price label. Sometimes buying more of the smaller packs is cheaper than buying the biggest packs.

Christmas food & drink logoChristmas beer deals round-upIncl 9 for 20 bottles of Bud or 18 cans of Carling

Expired

If you're looking to get the beers in for Christmas, here are some of the deals we've spotted on Tue 19 Dec...

£9 for 20 bottles of Budweiser

Until Tue 24 Dec, you can get a pack of 20 330ml bottles of Budweiser for £9 (norm £10) online at Tesco or in store (find your nearest), which works out at 45p per bottle or 15p per 100ml. The next best value we found Budweiser was £21 for three packs of 10 440ml cans online at Asda* or in store (find your nearest*), which works out at 70p per can or 15.9p per 100ml.

£9 for 18 cans of Carling

You can get a pack of 18 440ml cans of Carling for £9 at Tesco online or in store (find your nearest), which works out at 50p per can or 11.4p per 100ml. The next best value we found Carling was £11 for a 20-pack of 440ml cans online at Asda* or in store (find your nearest*), which works out at 55p per can or 12.5p per 100ml.

£13 for 18 cans of Kronenbourg

Until Mon 1 Jan, you can get a pack of 18 440ml cans of Kronenbourg for £13 (norm £16) at Sainsbury's* online or in store (find your nearest*), which works out at 72p per can or 16.4p per 100ml. We found it for the same price at Asda*.

3 for £21 on packs of beer

You can get three packs of selected beers for £21 (norm £24-£30) at Asda* online or in stores (find your nearest*). We've asked Asda how long this offer will last and we'll update here when it tells us. The offer includes Fosters, Stella Artois, Budweiser, Carling, Coors Light, Bud Light and Becks.

Don't assume that this will be the cheapest way to buy these beers, even with the offer, as we found it was cheaper to buy some of the beers in a different size pack, eg, you can get three 12-pack of 440ml Fosters* cans for £21 with this offer (58p per can), but it's cheaper to buy a 20-pack of Fosters* for £11 (55p per can).
