  • £33.60 for a 12-month Costco individual membership

    £33.60 for a 12-month Costco individual membership

Plus £37ish worth of freebies incl chicken, cake & batteries

    Expired

If you go to daily deals site Groupon* and pay £33.60 for a 12-month Costco individual membership (new members only, check eligibility below), you’ll also receive a large carrot cake, two whole fresh chickens, a 48-pack of AA batteries and a £10 voucher to spend in store (plus £20 off a £200 spend online). This slightly bizarre offer is valid until 11.59pm on Mon 13 May.

You're eligible for a Costco individual membership if you work in many public service, medical and financial professions (more below). If you're a business owner, you'd need a trade membership instead, which sadly won't be covered by this voucher. You also need to be a new Costco customer, so can't get the freebies by renewing an existing membership.

How to set up Costco membership

Once you’ve bought the voucher from Groupon (remember to first check you’ll be eligible for a Costco membership), you’ll need to head to a Costco store, show your voucher when you arrive and apply for your membership by Fri 31 May. See Groupon’s website for full T&Cs*.

When you’ve applied for your membership, you’ll be given the £10 off voucher as well as vouchers claim your freebies - you'll have until Fri 31 May to redeem all of these. The £10 voucher can be used on anything and Groupon's confirmed to us there are no exclusions and no minimum spend.

You’ll need to bring along a work ID Card, qualification or current payslip that proves your employment, plus photographic ID (eg, driving licence). See Costco’s website for full membership details.

If you buy the voucher and then find you're not eligible for a membership, Groupon has confirmed to us that it would give you a full refund.

What is Costco and who is eligible?

Costco is a warehouse-style store where you can buy all sorts of groceries and household items, including many brands, at discounted prices and often in bulk. For other ways to save on groceries, see our round-up of Supermarket Coupons.

There are 28 Costco stores across the UK (find your nearest), but you need a membership to shop there. You’re only able to get a membership if you work, or have worked in, certain professions (see ‘more info’ below for the full list), so unfortunately it’s not available for everyone.

    MSE Laura says:

The usual price of a 12-month Costco membership is £33.60, so you’re technically not receiving any discount. However, I’ve calculated the freebies to be worth £37.47 (see ‘more info’ below for details), so if those items appeal to you or if you were interested in a Costco membership anyway, this isn’t a bad deal (it just seems a bit random).
