Trade in your old sports equipment in exchange for gift vouchers
If you've old sports equipment going unused and collecting dust – no matter which brand or shop you originally purchased it from – you can take it into a Decathlon store (find your nearest) to trade it in for a voucher as part of its 'Buyback scheme'.
Update: Over Easter weekend (from Friday 18 April to Monday 21 April), the payback amount is boosted by 20%. So if Decathlon values your old items at £10, you'll receive an extra £2.
You'll need to be a Decathlon member to take part (it's free to sign up) and complete an online form to assess the quality and price of your item before bringing it into a store.
The Buyback scheme accepts 50 different items across 15+ sports, including cycling, watersports, golf, horse riding, racquet sports (tennis, padel, badminton, table tennis, squash), combat sports, GPS and watches, textiles, camping, roller sports, fitness, and more – see the full list.
How it works:
1. Get an estimate by completing an online assessment. It'll ask what the item is, the brand it's from, how much it originally cost and the year you purchased it. You'll be asked questions on the condition of the item and based on all of this, it will generate a price estimation. Decathlon says old items will be purchased for up to 45% of its RRP, to give you a rough estimate. Check second-hand selling sites such as eBay to make sure you're being offered a decent price.
Important: The price may be adjusted after inspecting your equipment in-store. It does not take into account any potential repairs, so don't take this as a guarantee you'll receive that amount in vouchers.
2. If you agree to accept the price estimation, you'll be prompted to book an in-store appointment and bring the item in for evaluation. The valuations are valid for 14 days after the initial quote, so make sure you've time to visit a store within this two-week period.
3. Receive your gift voucher. These are valid for 24 months and can be used online or in stores.

And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100. Known as Chargeback, this is part of banks' and card companies' internal rules and not a legal requirement. Read full details of Section 75 or Chargeback, plus how to claim, in our guides.
What the * means above
If a link has an * by it, that means it is an affiliated link and therefore it helps MoneySavingExpert stay free to use, as it is tracked to us. If you go through it, it can sometimes result in a payment or benefit to the site. It's worth noting this means the third party used may be named on any credit agreements.
You shouldn’t notice any difference and the link will never negatively impact the product. Plus the editorial line (the things we write) is NEVER impacted by these links. We aim to look at all available products. If it isn't possible to get an affiliate link for the top deal, it is still included in exactly the same way, just with a non-paying link.
