  • Amazon Prime Day 2020

    Amazon Prime Day 2020

Incl up to 50% off Echo devices, up to 34% off Fitbits, 20% off Amazon Warehouse

Update 8.14am Wed 14 Oct: These deals have been really popular and some of the Amazon Devices are running low in stock. The deals below are still available at the Prime Day prices, but may take a few weeks to be delivered.

Amazon is pumping out thousands of deals until 11.59pm on Wed 14 Oct for its annual Prime Day* event. It normally happens in July, but was pushed back because of the coronavirus pandemic.

As the name suggests, it's only for Amazon Prime customers, but if you don't have Prime, there's a way to access the deals for free if you've never had a trial before.

Amazon Warehouse has an extra 20% off on selected pre-owned or mildly damaged items until 11.59pm on Wed 14 Oct for Prime members. See how it works, and previous bargains we’ve spotted in our Amazon Warehouse guide.

Are the Prime Day 2020 deals any good?

Amazon doesn't reveal all of its Prime Day deals at launch, and some are only available for a limited time during the promotion, but we're analysing how good they are as soon as they're posted. Offers include 'up to 40% off' Tefal cookware, 'up to 35% off' SanDisk memory storage, 'up to 30% off' Bose headphones and as we predicted, 'up to 34% off' Fitbits.

Here are some of the deals we've spotted so far – we've tracked the price using the Amazon price tracker Camelcamelcamel and listed the next cheapest we could find elsewhere.

Don't assume every deal will be a winner though – while there are strong deals, there are also some duds. Most of the duds we’ve come across this year tend to be across Sports, Shoes, Music, Clothing and Beauty categories. So if you’re planning to buy something that falls under these, it may be worth double checking other retailers before buying to make sure you’re getting the best deal. For example, we spotted some L'Oreal Men Expert Pure Charcoal face wash* for £3.09 as a Prime Deal day, but it was £2.50 in Sep 2020 and even cheaper at £2.12 in June 2020.

Deals spotted at 1.26pm on Wed 13 Oct:

Duds (deals that were cheaper earlier this year):

Some deals last for the duration of the promotion, some last for 24 hours, and others – 'Lightning Deals' – are launched as often as every five minutes and last for a limited time.

As part of its Prime Day promo, Amazon is also offering a free £30 gift card for Prime members who take out its rewards credit card. For full info see our Credit Card Rewards guide.

Important: Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by the hype and sucked into buying something you don’t need or can’t afford. Always do your own price comparisons to ensure you're getting the best deal possible.

How to get access to Prime deals for free

Prime Day is aimed solely at those with an Amazon Prime membership (next-day delivery plus other perks), which normally costs £79 a year or £7.99 a month.

However, if you've not had an Amazon Prime account before, sign up to its free 30-day trial* and you'll be eligible for Prime Day deals. Just make sure you cancel before the trial is over if you don't want to continue membership (set yourself a reminder), otherwise you'll be charged. Students get six months' free Prime and 50% off full membership.

How to work out if it's a good deal

Amazon's not always cheapest for every item – so do your research before buying. If there's a product you're looking for, use 'shopbot' comparison tools such as Google Shopping and Price Spy to find its cheapest online price. However, shopbots can leave out or favour some retailers.

Amazon prices go up and down regularly, so it's also worth checking if a price is at its lowest using the Amazon price tracker Camelcamelcamel – that way you’ll see if it's actually a deal at all.

Also look out for price-matching from retailers such as, Argos, Currys and John Lewis, who may offer free extras such as a longer guarantee on some products.

    Alternative deals from rivals

While Prime Day is Amazon's big marketing event, we tend to see other brands and retailers offer rival deals.

Google is Amazon's big rival in the smart speaker space, and right now its voice-activated devices are on offer until Wed 14 Oct, which – likely by no coincidence – is also when Prime Day ends. Here's what you can get...

    • Google Nest Hub – £49.99 (norm £79.99) at Google
    • Google Nest Max – £179 (norm £219) at Google.
    • Google Home Max – £199 (norm £299) at Google.

We'll update here with other top alternative deals we spot.

    • Deals on Amazon services including Music and Kindle Unlimited

Amazon has a selection of promotions on its music and digital books services that you can snap up this Prime Day, including:
