It's certainly not a MoneySaving brand, but if you're going to buy from Ralph Lauren* anyway, it makes sense to do it when prices are slightly cheaper than normal.

Ways to save include:

Shop in the sale, or with a code. The Ralph Lauren sale offers discounts of up to 50% off a few times a year. Plus, there are occasional discount codes for a site-wide discount. Keep your eyes peeled for these in the MSE weekly email newsletter.
Check other retailers. If you're not committed to buying direct from Ralph Lauren, check other stores such as Asos, John Lewis and House of Fraser, where you may find there same Ralph Lauren items at a cheaper price.

If you go online to posh clothing brand Ralph Lauren, it's offering 25% off selected items until 11.59pm on Monday 2 December in its Black Friday weekend promotion. Ralph Lauren isn't MoneySaving, but if you were going to buy it anyway, now could be a good time as it isn't often discounted.

There's no code or voucher needed – the discount has been automatically applied to products with the 'Black Friday Event' tag. It includes 2,000+ items across men's, women's and kids' fashion, as well as a small selection of home items.

Here's a selection of items we saw with 25% off:

Baby's Polo Bear crew socks three-pack - £9 (was £12). Next cheapest we found, £12 at Childrensalon
Women's Ring Trim Jersey cap-sleeve dress - £142 (was £189). We couldn't find this sold elsewhere
Leather Marcy belt bag in 'dark mahogany' or 'dark olive' - £194 (was £259). Next cheapest we found, £207.20 at Fenwick
Men's The Beaton quilted jacket - £262 (was £349). Next cheapest we found, £279.20 at Asos

Delivery on orders of £100 or less is a whopping £9.95, so bear this in mind – though you can click & collect for free. Also, look at prices elsewhere, as Ralph Lauren clothing may be being sold cheaper in other Black Friday sales.

Important: Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by the hype around Black Friday and be sucked into buying something you don’t need or can’t afford. Always do your own price comparisons to ensure you are getting the best deal possible – don’t just take a retailer’s word for it.

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.
And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100.
