Homeware store The Range launched its Black Friday sale on Thursday 13 November and is offering online and in-store discounts on products including indoor lighting, kitchen appliances and outdoor furniture.

When we checked on Thursday 20 November, there were over 15,000 items included in the sale. This is considerably less than last year's total of 28,000, so we expect more lines to be added as we get closer to Black Friday weekend.

Although The Range claims you can save up to 50% on selected products, we found that many of the deals are price-matched or bettered at other retailers.

Delivery costs £4.99, or it's free when you spend over £59.

Important: Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by the hype around Black Friday and be sucked into buying something you don’t need or can’t afford. Always do your own price comparisons to ensure you are getting the best deal possible – don’t just take a retailer’s word for it.

When an adult buys a main meal

If you're visiting The Range (find your nearest) and fancy a bite to eat, head to Café Eighty Nine (its in-store cafés), and kids aged under 16 can eat for 'free' when an adult buys a main meal during the Easter holidays. The dates it runs for will differ depending on your location:

England and Scotland – Now until Monday 21 April
Wales and Northern Ireland – Saturday 12 April until Sunday 27 April

No code is required as the promotion is automatically applied to the bill. This offer is available in most of its in-store cafés across the UK every day of the week, from opening until café close.

The 'free' kids' meal includes dishes such as pick 'n' mix sandwich selection, fish & chips, or vegan chicken goujons & chips for example, and this would usually cost about £4. All kids' meals include a drink and a piece of fruit too.

One child can eat for free with every adult meal purchased.

There's a little-known piece of legislation that turns any credit card into a financial self-defence superhero. 'Section 75' of the Consumer Credit Act means your plastic must protect anything you buy for more than £100 for free, so if there's a problem or the company goes bust, you can still get your money back.
And although Section 75 doesn't apply to debit cards, there is something else to fall back on if you've paid using a debit card, or used a credit card for a purchase under £100.
