Record numbers switched electricity supplier last year

Electricity customers switched their supplier a record 5.8 million times last year, new figures reveal.
The number – which equates to roughly one in five consumers – is a 6% increase on 2017's record figures when there were 5.5 million switches.
The data shows that, on average, there were almost half a million domestic and business electricity switches every month in 2018, continuing the trend of year-on-year increases in energy switching.
And the figures, from trade association Energy UK, which only cover electricity switches, show that in December alone, 464,378 switched supplier, up 10% on December 2017. Nearly 98,962 of these were to small and mid-sized suppliers.
