Scam alert: British Airways '£500 voucher'

Spotted on Facebook. DON'T sign up - it's a fake!

We've seen a Facebook post doing the rounds with a link to a British Airways '£500 voucher' (see below). British Airways has confirmed this IS A FAKE VOUCHER, so avoid visiting the dodgy page and don't sign up.

British Airways told us: "We provide, and regularly update extensive guidance to our customers on how to spot, report and safeguard against fraudulent activity. We also immediately update to warn our customers about any particular examples of illegal activity."

At Olympic Stadium on Fri & Sat. See Mo, Usain & more

MSE Update 3.15pm Thu 21 Jul: The lowest priced tickets (tiers 2 &3) on Fri 22 Jul have now sold out. However, there are a few tier one, gold and diamond tickets still available. There are more tickets still available for Sat 23 Jul, with only gold tickets having sold out - we asked British Athletics how many were left, but it was unable to confirm.

This weekend is the highlight of the UK athletics calendar and probably the year’s biggest meet outside the Rio Olympics. On track will be Mo Farah, Usain Bolt and many other world stars. Go via our London Anniversary Games Ticketmaster links to get 20% off tickets for the event on Fri 22 Jul and Sat 23 Jul at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Stadium in Stratford.

Now as an added extra, our Martin’s going to be there too, though not in lycra. He’s a massive lifelong athletics fan – in fact before he was a money statto, he was a track and field one being able to name all british and world records at the age of 12.  And this year, as a hobby, he's been doing in-field commentary for spectators at athletics events. He'll be there at the Olympic Stadium this weekend, with a special brief to help newbies to athletics understand what’s going on. In fact, he’s the one that organised this discount on tickets.

The discount is available until 11.59pm on Thu 21 Jul, but the British Athletics Association told us on Tue 19 Jul there were fewer than 1,000 tickets remaining in total across the two days - so you’ll have to be quick out of the blocks if you want to see the world’s best athletes and Paralympic stars in their final preparations for the Rio Olympics.

How to get the discounted tickets

If you go via the above links, you'll be redirected to Ticketmaster where you can buy one-day tickets at 20% off. Tickets normally range from £20 for adults and £12 for children to £125 before the discount.

There are four different types of ticket to choose from, sorted by their position in the stadium: upper and lower tier concession (under-16s, 16+ with student card and over-60s), upper and lower tier adult (standard); gold (home straight) and diamond (finish line).

The cheapest adult tickets we could find - they're selling out fast - when we tested the link on Tue 19 Jul were:

    • 1x Friday ticket - £26.25 including booking fee.
    • 1x Saturday ticket - £18 including booking fee.

You'll have the option to either receive your tickets via email (free) to print and show on arrival or collect them at the box office for £2.95. Tickets can't be scanned from your smartphone.

What are the London Anniversary Games?

Organised by the British Athletics Association, the event will see world record holder Usain Bolt take to the track (Fri only), with Mo Farah (Sat only) and Jessica Ennis-Hill (Fri & Sat) also competing in the IAAF Diamond League meet and Paralympic stars including David Weir and Jonnie Peacock doing battle in the IPC Grand Prix Final on Saturday. For many athletes, it will be their final competition before heading to Brazil for the Games, which start on Fri 5 Aug.

On Fri 22 Jul, doors open at 5pm and the event ends at 10pm. On Sat 23 Jul, doors open at 11am and the event ends at 5pm.
