FREE £17 organic and vegan sunscreen mini at selected O2 stores

Can you find 'em? Simply say the secret phrase to nab your freebie

MSE Update, Thursday 16 May 3.56pm: O2 has confirmed that all initial stock in stores is sold out, but said 800+ in total would be available, in a staggered release to stores throughout the month. This means this deal is more of a 'can you find em?' than guaranteed, so it's only worth going in and asking if you're near a store anyway. We'll update you here when we know more about stock. You can still get five-star UVA protection for less than a fiver, so it's no excuse to skimp on sunscreen!

As the sun starts to show up in earnest (we hope) in the UK, it's the time of year when you might start thinking about sunscreen, unless you wear it daily as recommended by foundations such as The British Skincare Foundation. Sunscreen can be expensive, which worryingly can put people off using the recommended amount, but I've found a fab freebie for you, plus tips on where to get cheap sunscreen with five-star UVA protection.

From Wednesday 15 May until the end of June (while stock lasts), O2 is giving away a 10ml tube of Green People's Age-Defy Daily SPF30 moisturiser attached to a handy case which you can stick to your phone so you don't forget it. It's not a bad freebie, as 10ml of this cream is £17 online at Green People, it's organic, gluten-free and vegan as well as non-whitening.

To get it, you'll have to pop in to one of the selected stores across the country (see below) and use the secret phrase "Don't get burnt" with staff to pick up the freebie. It's first come first served, and O2 couldn't tell us how many are available per location per week, so if you live or work near one of the below stores it's worth popping in sooner rather than later. You don't have to be on O2 to pick up this freebie.

  • London: 120 Oxford St, London W1D 1LT
  • Cardiff: Unit Lg10, St Davids, St Davids Centre, Cardiff CF10 2ER
  • Edinburgh: 129 St James Crescent St James Quarter Edinburgh EH1 3AD
  • Belfast: 14-16 Castle Ln, Belfast BT1 5DA
  • Birmingham: 24 New St, Birmingham B2 4RQ
  • Manchester Market St: Unit 5, 39 Market St, Manchester M1 1WR

Why is O2 giving out a freebie worth £17?

O2 has teamed up with Green People to provide this freebie to remind people to 'top up' their sunscreen, so they avoid getting 'burnt by the sun, or roaming fees'. It's using this promotion to draw attention to the potential savings on roaming charges when travelling in Europe this summer, as most other major networks charge £2/day whereas it's included with O2.

If you're looking to change your mobile phone provider, see our Cheap mobile finder for more information on SIM only, contract, PAYG, as well as brand new or refurbished phones.

If you are with O2, you'll probably already know you get 'free' roaming in Europe, so for O2 customers Green People is offering 30% off selected products via a code from O2 Priority until Friday 31 May. The discount can't be used with other special offers, or on bundles, subscriptions, gift sets, or in conjunction with cashback websites.

I can't get the freebie, where can I get cheap five-star UVA sunscreen?

As the freebie is located across the country, but only in six locations, and only 10ml of sunscreen that's not going to be enough for everyone. Don't worry, you can get sunscreen with five-star UVA protection at factors 30 and above (as recommended by BSF) for less than a fiver.
