We thought Sim-only deals were already at rock-bottom prices, but competition's pushed them ever lower this week. Around 14m people are out of contract, free to switch and slash bills. If that's you, now's the time to use our Cheap Sim Finder - some cracking short-lived deals have just launched. Here's how to check and switch...

Step 1: Can you switch & save? Check by dialling just five digits. Just text 'INFO' for free to 85075 (some providers will ask for your date of birth to help confirm your identity). The service will then tell you if there are any early termination/cancellation charges - if there aren't, you're free to move. It won't work for some on 'multiple-phone' contracts, but if you've been with the same provider for more than two years, you're likely out of contract (though do check).

Step 2: Switch to the best new Sim to save. There are actually only four mobile network operators (MNOs) in the UK - EE, O2, Three and Vodafone. All others are mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs), which piggyback on their signals and tend to be a lot cheaper. Our Cheap Sim Finder lets you filter for deals using your current network's signal. As Willem emailed: "I switched my mobile plan from Vodafone to Lebara, saving over £600/yr. Thanks for the newsletter - it helped prompt the change." Here's an example of what's available right now on each network's signal using piggybacking (all have unltd UK calls & texts).

Step 3: To keep your number when switching, text 'PAC' for free to 65075. You'll then get a code to give your new provider, which will transfer your number - usually within one working day. (Do note: some providers will ask for your date of birth to confirm your ID, and this won't work if you're on a contract with more than one phone.)

Sometimes doing this triggers a retention offer - they might fight to keep you with a much better deal. You could even try this first if you'd rather stick with your current provide. For more help, see our Mobile phone haggling guide.

How to pay less at Amazon: Seven little-known tools & tricks, incl 60% off 'like new' returns & 15% off household essentials

Amazon's main site makes shopping so simple that many fall into the trap of never delving any deeper into what else the online retailer has to offer. That leaves you at risk of overpaying, as many of its best ways to save are tucked away. Our Amazon guide has the full range of tips, tools and tricks to help you buy things you'd have bought anyway for less, but here's a taster...

1. Amazon Resale: Speedily uncover up to 60% off 'like new' returns with our unique tool.
- Quickly find bargains: Use our free Amazon Resale Discount Finder.
- Best for? Up-to-date branded electricals, kitchen appliances, laptops, clothing, games, jewellery, household items.
- Consumer rights: You've got statutory rights, but you might not get the manufacturer's warranty.

Amazon Resale* sells returned or slightly damaged items at reduced prices. Discounts of 30% to 60% are common, and often the damage is no more than to the box, while the product itself is in excellent condition. As Resale deals constantly come and go, what you can get on any given day is a bit of a lottery, but many MoneySavers have saved big, including Anne-Marie who told us on Facebook last week: "Recently bought a mini PC from Resale. The cellophane was still on the box so it had never been opened. It was over £150 less than the 'new' price. I am well pleased!"

2. Amazon Renewed: Save on top-condition used tech with a 1yr warranty.
- Quickly find bargains: Search on Amazon Renewed*. For phones, use our Refurbed Phone Finder for a wider range.
- Best for? Slightly older tech, including phones, laptops, headphones, games consoles, smartwatches and cameras.
- Consumer rights: Everything comes with a one-year warranty on top of your statutory rights.

Unlike Resale, which mainly focuses on returned products, Renewed* sells refurbished tech that's been tested, cleaned and restored to full working order. It's often stocked with previous-generation Apple, Samsung, Dell and other big-brand devices.

Stock varies and is limited, but we found a Garmin Approach S60 watch for £175 (new £309), a Nintendo Switch neon for £169 (new £248) and Anker Space earbuds for £30 (new £42).

3. 'Subscribe & Save' TRICK: Get 5% to 15% off essentials, even if you only want them once. You can get discounts on many household staples, including loo roll, bin liners, batteries, toiletries and cleaning products, by signing up to Amazon's repeat-delivery service.

The trick? You still get the discount on your first order, but you're not locked in to future deliveries. Once your order arrives, just cancel the Subscribe & Save subscription and keep the saving. We found a six-pack of Dolmio Bolognese sauce for £8.73 (normally £12.48), 120-pack of Felix cat food pouches for £24.70 (normally £32.94), OPI Tickle My France-y nail polish for £7.96 (normally £10.08), and a four-pack of Twinings Everyday tea bags for £10.50 (normally £14). 4. Spending £30 to £35 and don't have Prime? Use the Super Saver Delivery tool. Amazon normally charges for delivery on orders under £35. If you're only a few quid short, it can sometimes be cheaper to add a low-cost item than pay the delivery charge. Our Amazon free delivery tool helps find suitable filler items that push your basket over the threshold for less.

5. Can you cut the cost of Prime membership?Prime (one-day delivery, TV/movie streaming etc) costs £9/mth or £95/yr, but there are ways to reduce what you pay:

- Aged 18 to 24 or a student? You can get 50% off Prime, plus 6mths free if you're new. See full 50% off Prime info.

6. Is that deal really a deal? Check past prices with CamelCamelCamel. A product showing as "50% off" doesn't automatically make it a bargain. The clever CamelCamelCamel tool lets you view Amazon price history so you can see whether today's discount is genuinely good or if the item has sold for less before. If you're prepared to wait, you can set a target price and receive an alert when it's reached.

7. Psst... Amazon also has a hidden vouchers page. There's a little-known page packed with digital vouchers offering extra money off selected products. Not every voucher leads to a great deal, but it's worth a browse before you buy, especially if you're already planning a purchase.
